I have been having an issue with my internet I can’t seem to fix! On every device in my house I get 39mbps download and 15ms ping, yet my PlayStation (with wired connection) will only sometime get this. Most of the time it is just jumping between 9 - 20mbps. I have tried wiping the PlayStation, re-Installing firmware, changing DNS servers and MTU settings. Nothing seems to work, does anyone have any suggestions?
Not quite sure if your trolling (which I have a suspicion that you are) but I will play along.
Internet speeds are going to be wonky for awhile due to everyone being on lockdown. Several companies including several ISP companies, streaming companies like YouTube, Netflix and gaming companies Sony, Microsoft have put measures in place due to everyone being at home and using the internet. Just wait till the pandemic blows over and your speeds will be back to normal. There's nothing wrong with your system.
Yeah I understand that a lot of people are online at the moment, I don’t have issues on any other devices though. It really seems like it’s the PlayStation that is playing up, seems odd that when I run a test it has 39mbps but it just won’t run online games.
@CLowdell You're only having issues with PlayStation because your internet isn't the part of the chain that's been affected by this. Sony is slowing everybody's incoming and outgoing access to their online services. Your PS4's speed test is you (workin' fine) speaking to PSN (runnin' slow) and back again. That's why you're only seeing lower numbers on your PS4.
Rest assured that nothing is "playing up" on your end. This is a deliberate and socially-conscious move by Sony to ensure that everybody as some functionality, rather than nobody having any.
If you're desperate to play online, try playing off-peak, maybe in the early hours of the morning.
