Topic: Hard drive cloning

I want to upgrade the hard drive in my PS4 slim, and I've looked at all of the tutorials on how to do it.

However, when it comes to restoring game saves, etc.. can I plug in the old internal hard drive in an external enclosure to restore everything?

Or, to skip everything, can I just clone everything from the internal hard drive onto another one and pop it into the PS4?

Thanks in advance

I doubt you could do that as the PS4 will want to format the external drive as extended storage, likely wiping it in the process. Personally, before removing the internal drive, I would either make sure all your saves are in the cloud if you have PSPlus, or copy all your saves to a USB stick, or do both for safety.

@Fr0stii I'm curious as to whether this works or not. I thought about doing it when I upgraded my own hard drive but none of the guidance mentioned cloning so I didn't want to waste my time and money (as I'd have to buy another enclosure) if it didn't work.

Let us know if you do try it though and how you get on! Not sure if maybe allowing the PS4 to format the blank drive before you clone the old drive onto it would make a difference or not 🤷‍♂️

See ya!
