Platinum Trophy #8: Donut County
Date Earned: 26th August 2018
Dopamine Index:
Donut County is a game I reviewed here on Push Square, and I was happy to do it.
It's perfectly in my wheelhouse; it's a short indie game with a novel premise and a decidedly unserious tone. You can keep your big blockbusters and samey annual shooters — give me unique, silly little games any day of the week.
How could I not love a game about a selfish raccoon sending his entire town and its people into oblivion just to get his mitts on a drone?
Admittedly, it's got a very internet humour vibe, and that's not going to work for everyone, but I really liked this daft distraction.
There's definitely some Katamari Damacy in the core idea, which is that you control a hole in the ground that expands the more objects fall into it. While Donut County doesn't have the same scope as Bandai Namco's series, it definitely shares a sense of silliness that's all too rare in games nowadays.
It's a short experience, but it's one full of cute puzzles, funny writing, and a simple but satisfying idea at its centre. Sending stuff down a perfect cartoon hole in the ground is sort of senseless, but it's oddly compelling.
Trophies-wise, this is probably one of the easier platinums I've earned. You'll get most (if not all) the Trophies just playing through the story.
If I remember rightly, I didn't think about the platinum until after I'd completed the game and the review was done, hopping back in to scoop up the few remaining tasks, because why not?
Listen, I don't have a huge amount to say about this one. Donut County is a great little game, it's an easy plat, and sometimes that's all we need, isn't it? Something easy breezy. If games were dinner, this would be a frozen pizza, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I nearly deleted that bit about the pizza, but then I thought, Going Platinum isn't exactly premium stuff, you know? If regular features were dinner, it'd be a frozen pizza.
Cheers, Donut County.

I’ve got the platinum too. I like a nice easy fun game now and again. Finally started Death stranding 2 and I think it may take me till RE9 comes out till I can get the Plat in that 🤣
Yeah same here, I wonder how many people played this and didn't platinum it? I seem to remember it being an easy one.
You should have a "Worst Trophy" award for each game, where possible. Most games have got that one evil trophy
I never heard of this game but it kinda looks like Katamari Damacy.
Btw i wonder if @Quintumply ever platinum ExitMan.
@PuppetMaster Can confirm, as a a long-time KD fan, this 100% scratched the Katamari Damacy itch.
amusing game, kinda regret not grabbing a physical copy.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk took me over 150 hours lol. It’s the 5 star grind that does you. Once you get to the end-game of levelling facilities Just google the largest deliveries for each facility and keep redoing the same ones. Obvs it takes some in-game time for the orders to come back round again but you can repeat them over and over
@GamingGod I remember it taking me 120 hours to platinum the original so that’s why I’ve probably been putting off starting this for so long 🤣
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk oh god it took me well over 200 to do the first. But then I didn’t have a clue about what 5 star facility’s would entail. I was a bit more prepared this time in that sense 😆. You’ll probs get it done much quicker than me then mate. I actually flew through the first map and did the bulk of it in oz first then went back to Mexico and finished it that way Mexico is so much quicker to do than oz. Also get your Monorails & roads up and running as quick as possible as they cut the time by half. The monorail is a godsend for big deliveries but also doesn’t reach every facility so you’ll still need a truck with you at all times. Absolutely brilliant game though mate much better than the first. I enjoyed the first, I loved the second ❤️. Another tip concentrate on getting Mr impossible and ghost hunter facilities ranked up asap and they have missions and trophies attached.
Sorry I could talk about that game for hours 😁
@GamingGod thanks for the tips I’m really early in the game so only just started in Australia. It feels a lot easier handling BT’s this game as I had a load of trouble in the original. I spent 4 or 5 hours setting up a zip line system in the first game that really help me get a lot of legend of ledgers ranks so getting 5 star ranks at all outposts became a lot quicker. I’m really looking forward to spending a lot more time in this world
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk yes I set a couple of zip lines up where I couldn’t use the monorail like up to the cronobiologist on the mountain or the aeronautical engineer right at the top or generally around the Mountain but yes it’s a lot easier to traverse this game than the 1st I’d say the roads also go to most facilities
I got the platinum for this game sometime ago, I loved it. I 100% recommended playing this game
