Capcom’s knockout brawler Street Fighter 6 is getting some big balance changes alongside the release of Akuma on 22nd May. A brand-new trailer, embedded above, teases the tweaks, with the headline being a new wakeup Drive Reversal mechanic. This effectively gives you a new tool to counter combos, especially when you’re trapped in the corner of the screen.
The trailer goes on to demonstrate a lot of new combat options for practically the entire roster, although it’s probably safe to assume there’ll be nerfs to coincide with the buffs that appear to be on display. We’re going to go out on a limb and assume not everyone will be happy with the changes, especially if popular characters are getting dialled down, but we’ll need to await the reaction from the competitive community to know for sure.
The aforementioned release of Akuma will conclude the first season of content for the release, with a second season expected to be announced later in the summer.

Sf6 is definitely my fighting game of gen right now.
man sf6 really has a good rep, im just still waiting my ass off for the game to drop more characters im interested in, because i cant get into this roster at all.
I hope my boy Ed gets enough buff than just crouch LP not -5 on block anymore...

I always hate when this happens. Get used to how a character plays and then they go and screw it all up. Happens 100% of the time. For once, just leave well enough alone.

I'd rather they tinker. Refreshes strats and after a year of monitoring the meta, the team can hopefully provide those low tier bin juice characters with some help.

Wait until the balance come out before saying they screwed up.
Beside, Capcom leave the balance unchange long enough for like 8 months because they had CPT, SFL, and Capcom Cup. But since season 1 already ended and season 2 right around the corner with Akuma release, this balance update is a must especially for some low tier characters.
I like the idea of everyone having access to a wake up Drive Reversal. It gives everyone an option to fight off pressure while still making sure your wake up DP characters still have that extra utility. It's also not without its tradeoffs as it does take a good chunk of drive meter and if the opponent sees it coming can punish accordingly.
Good change Capcom. I approve!
@Korgon I played a lot of Zangief and getting bullied in the corner was such a demotivating part of the game for me. I also never really gave drive reversal much thought whereas now I will. Such a sensible change.
All of the changes here seem very good. I think almost everyone getting some kind of buff O think will help out a lot in making everyone happy in some way, like you aren't only going to get nerfs while everyone else is getting buffs. Very excited for this once Akuma drops along side their costumes. SF6 just never stops doing dubs

I kind of got into Aki but after diamond she is hard to win with. Mostly bad matchups. Hope she gets some buff
