It's that time of year again: the BAFTA Games Awards are just around the corner. The prestigious awards show is set to take place later this month, and all the nominees have just been announced. While there's a typically wide range of games represented, two of Sony's first-party titles lead the way. The Last of Us: Part II and Ghost of Tsushima are nominated 14 and 12 times respectively.
The pair of PlayStation 4 exclusives are up for various vocal performance awards, as well as Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, and Best Game, among others. The highly regarded rogue-lite action game Hades is hot on their heels with 10 nods, and other Sony titles are in the running too. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Dreams, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Astro's Playroom are recognised in a handful of categories, and Demon's Souls gets a single nomination for Technical Achievement.
We've embedded the full list of nominations below for your perusal. The ceremony itself, which will be streamed online, takes place on 25th March. One award is voted for by the public — EE Game of the Year — so follow this link and have your say. Which games should take home those golden masks? Discuss in the comments section below.

Voted. I wonder what for?
🤔
Congrats to Sony for the nominations for all their games. Good for us and good for PC owners in a few years time.
😉
The Last of Us Part II wasn't even nominated in the narrative category?
I'm tired lmao
FF7R was robbed! But at least its an award show that actually waits for the year to end before choosing the winners
Sits back silently with popcorn
I thought Miles Morales' narrative was one the weakest parts personally. Even though it wasn't for me seems odd not to have TLOU2 in that category too
That reminds me though i still need to play Hades & Kentucky Route Zero
Fantastic news for 2 great games, also phenomenal from Sony to release both these gems in the same year.
@TrueAssassin86x ah yes, that definition of "silently" that goes:
"I just can't help but try and get some attention though"
@danlk1ng
Or the i gotta reply just to reply to his comment, comment.
I know how comments sections like this go when the words Awards and TLOU Part 2 go. I mean the game been out what 8 months and people still hate on it. It got annoying the second month the game was out. People need to move the heck on.
I've been a bit of a detractor of The Last of Us Part 2 in the past, but I hadn't played Ghost of Tsushima until this week. Spent around 10 hours with it and am completely underwhelmed. In terms of Best Game from the list given, I suppose it has to be TLoU2. Not a strong year for me though.
TLOU2 not being nominated for Narrative is ridiculous. The game's story is absolutely incredible and is a wonderful analysis on actions having consequences. A hero to some, can be a villain to others. I appreciated that. We only followed Ellie and Joel, not even thinking of the lives they destroyed along their own journey. By the end, I actually adored certain characters more than Ellie.
Anyway to each their own. Love this game and just started a third playthrough on Grounded +.
I wish Cyberpunk 2077 was nominated for Technical Achievement, just to see the sh*tstorm online.
@danlk1ng That's the definition of "silently" I use when playing stealth games - and not intentionally.
I know Cyberpunk 2077 had a lot of problems but I feel that it's missing quite a few nominations from these categories, specifically music, audio and Emily Woo Zeller as Panam Palmer in supporting role. Cherami Leigh as female V would defo get my vote in leading role. My personal game of the year.
As much as I loved TLOU 2 and how ballsy that story was, pacing wise it’s a bit of mess, so I can see how a more well structured story like Ghost would be nominated. Why Valhalla’s there I have no sodding clue.
@ApostateMage The writing in Cyberpunk is top tier. The questlines no matter how small and insignificant they may seem always turned into something so well thought out.
TLOU II not nominated for narrative has to be a mistake, right?
DOOM Eternal was a masterpiece of intuitive gameplay focused design. It is the truest, most game-y “game” to be released in years. It wasn’t afraid to call the player out in their lack of skill, and it encouraged you to get better, like games used to. If anything, it should win at least one award.
It’s not even nominated for GotY or best music? What’s even is this list? This is stupid.
@Matroska Okay, I lol'ed. You win.
NINJA APPROVED
@-Juice- "Doom Eternal was a masterpiece of intuitive gameplay focused design." Whaaaat did I just read?? lol
Would anybody say that about COD? Or any other FPS game, for that matter? I understand there are differing qualities of FPS games, and Doom Eternal is very well received but...masterpiece of intuitive gameplay focused design?
Bro, please explain what the heck you are getting at. How is Doom Eternal THAT good?
@BloodNinja I have to generall agree with @-Juice- . It's absolutely a masterpiece of gameplay design, albeit, arcade action gameplay design. It's not a perfect game, and the arcade nature of it makes it not quite GOTY material in most ways, but what it does, it's quite possibly the best any game has ever done at that thing. The environments, enemies, placements, and the "weapons triangle" (to borrow an FE term) combine to yield the tightest FPS action....can't even say "FPS" action because the heavy melee component makes it just action full-stop. It's a relentless pace but all fantastically balanced like a ballet. It's quite amazing what they did. It's subtle, but it's just a level of gameplay design. One could argue it's a faster, shooting-focused take on the Souls theme. But then it's still different. There are other aspects of the game that make it maybe worse in some ways than its predecessor, but I think it's really just 2 different games more than a "better and worse" sequel. Both stand alone.
If it had one true flaw, I would say that it's SUCH intense in its pacing and pressure it's hard to play for long periods of time. I haven't played all through it yet, but, man, what's there, I think it's a game that kind of slipped under the radar, but 15 years from now when all the other current games are dated, people are still going to be talking about that one, and it'll actually gain in popularity and legend. It kind of released without fanfare and looks like "another shooter" - but it's a design that, IMO will hold up for a long time to come, again, in a way that Souls kind of slipped under the radar at launch but became legendary over time. (I say that as not a Souls fan )
Also, I think it's fitting, but with a misplaced set of letters that Cyberpunk 2077 is nominated for Best (con) Artistry!
Finally got around to playing Last of Us: Part II and, well, it's a great game and definitely deserving of its nominations.
@NEStalgia I’m glad you enjoyed it so much. When I tried it I got sick of it because it had a distinct lack of feedback, so I just felt like I was getting hit from all directions all the time.
Something I love about classic Doom over the newer ones is that if you want to play aggressive, you can. But if you want to be more cautious, you can do that too and the game doesn’t punish you. New Doom felt like it punishes cautious tactics, so I just moved on from it.
Logan Cunningham should win the voice acting one, he's amazing in his many roles in Hades and makes every voice feel like their own character.
@BloodNinja Oh, yeah, it's very explicitly designed to prevent cautious play. The devs have talked about that, though i forget the name they came up with for it. But it's designed so that the best way to stay alive is to get up close and push hard and that's part of it's balance. That's why it's hard to call it an fps, it's really not, it's it's own genre almost. If I were to compare it to anything, it would actually probably be DMC/Bayonetta. But it's not quite like those either.
But if you're looking for cautious shooting it's definitely the wrong game, for sure. It's very deliberately a forwardly aggressive combat system with as much melee as shooting. Incredibly balanced though, which is extraordinary for a game of that speed.
@NEStalgia It's more fun to watch than to play, to be sure!
