The soul still burns, but it does so from within a trashcan in Japan these days. SoulCalibur VI endured a disastrous opening in its native Japan, selling a feeble 24,049 copies on the PlayStation 4. That’s way down on previous entries, and with the sequel also struggling in Western territories like the UK, it’s not looking great for this epic series of swords and shields.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, meanwhile, is having a whale of a time. The first-person shooter topped the Japanese sales charts for a second successive week, shifting another 95,572 units, bringing its total up to 321,347 units. That’s a really impressive number when you consider the country’s usual tastes, and we’re eager to see whether Red Dead Redemption 2 can replicate this kind of success. The marketing’s certainly looking good.
In the hardware department, the PlayStation 4’s holding pretty steady at 21,673 units across all models, although Sony will have probably hoped for more considering it recently dropped the price of the PS4 Pro. Maybe it’ll take a little longer for word to get out – or perhaps Japan simply isn’t interested in the premium model.

The Japanese still seem to love the Vita don't they?
I'm sure cutting characters out and flogging them later will makke up for lost revenue... nope. Just stop it.
Can someone explain me the two numbers in Hardware Sales?
@Galiad the first number is how many was sold this week, the numbers in (brackets) is what was sold last week.
Impossibru! I was told good games always sell well.
Kinda surprised. Not just at the poor performance of SC6 but at the solid performance of BlOps4. The omission of a campaign is not hurting the game at all. I just can’t wrap my head around why the blasted game is so appealing. Given a choice, I think I’d rather do my laundry than play COD.
Poor SC6 getting punished for day one DLC but CoD BlOps4 without campaign is selling better and in Japan wow
Releasing a week before Red Dead was always going to hurt it, hopefully sales increase as time goes on.
@Th3solution Was surprised with the performance of COD WWII in Japan, which I think touched about 250k in 2 weeks, so even more so with BLOPS.
I hope so.SC6 is an amazingly solid beat em up. Never, ever played games online until now. I'm really enjoying it.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I know the Beta was great fun. 😁
soul caliber is still number 3.thats pretty good.so it's no big deal.word up son
@Flaming_Kaiser yes it was great. Had some connection issues tho and sometimes took a long time to get in to a match. More or less eradicated the issues in the full game tho.
@playstation1995
It's more telling of the market in general over there than the series itself. But if UK sales remain slow and it's not much better in North America, then things look bad. Which is a shame because it's an awesome fighter filled with tons of good content.
@Th3solution Same here I've never cared for COD, don't understand the attraction for games like it.
Not many will pay full price for a fighting game. Me included.
