Remember when we said that H1Z1: Battle Royale was blowing up? That was an understatement. The title – which attracted 1.5 million players in its first 24 hours on the PlayStation 4 – has just crossed 4.5 million players. It’s taken the release around three or four days to get there.
It’s another indication of why franchises like Call of Duty have decided to add Battle Royale to their games, but it's also a reminder that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has really missed the mark on the world’s most popular console. Look how hungry PS4 owners are for titles of its ilk!

The game is a little rough around the edges but im having alot of fun with it, I would say more than I used to with fortnite as soon as people got amazing at building I just couldn't keep up.
Played a few matches this morning, lots of fun. I came 2nd in one match, 2nd!!! Gah, so close. Definitely getting the hang of it now. Looking forward to trying out duos mode when I get a chance.
This game gets seriously manic sometimes once the player count drops to under 20, it's very entertaining. Well worth grabbing yourself a decent vehicle early on if you get the chance, makes a big difference.
I like this game alot more than Fortnite mainly because I just don't like the whole building aspect of the game. This one is more tactical and realistic and as a fan of games like Rainbow Six the game is so much more fun for me. I will be playing this as my go-to for Battle Royale gameplay, I hope they release another map like PUBG is on Xbox One, then it would be perfect. That being said I like the map that is there enough but more variety is always nice!
i don't get it, why it's so massive... you drop into a big map, spend most of the time running away from a gas cloud, might not see anybody in 5 minutes, die and finish 21st out of a 100. i played 5 games over about 45 minutes and shot 3 people and got shot once. didn't see anybody else. where's the fun in this?. plus it looks and plays as shonky as hell.
Too busy with Detroit at the moment but looking forward to giving this a go. I enjoy Fortnite but I suck at building in it. PUBG really could have made a killing if they went PS4, at this rate there will be too many competitors
Been interested in this genre but the building aspect turned me off to Fortnite. Looking forward to give this game a go later today.
Agree with others about the building in Fortnite, this looks much more interesting; will have to have a go.
@leucocyte I had the same with Fortnite i think its a waste of time personally. 😉
@leucocyte It is the emergent gameplay. You dont need to shoot anyone and can finish in the top 10 - giving that sense you are good. The reality is you are very much the mercy of who you are matched with and if they are messing around or trying to make cock of the yard. What really puts me off are these games are chock full of kids, the gameplay itself is actually fulfilling once you learn the best places to drop in and know what you are looking for.
We can do without the trolling, thanks
I'm done with battle royal. It's too random, and I don't like how there is little too no sense of progression.
I just started last night and already have four wins, i like its environment way better than fortnite. However it has some issues such as damage consistency and car do not always kill when running somebody over. All in all i love it
Fortnite has customization and different game modes? You call giving me a random character every game and an umbrella for a glider customization? And the only game mode is Battle Royale (no one plays single player mode).
PUBG could be a good game, if it was released in 2006. The gameplay mechanics and graphics are so messy and basic. The only reason it's popular is because it was the first of its kind. Just like Fortnite it's just a craze that will die off.
Wow!!!! Had my comment removed for trolling!? Now THAT is pathetic. Didnt realise that we had to love ALL games equally.
How is saying this game looks crap, trolling?
Battlefield V? Genuinely excited about.
Doom II? Genuinely excited about.
This and fortnite look and are garbage.
Or maybe in this new era of “you clever, me clever, we all is clever, all encompassing need for inclusion irrespective of talent or merit” a negative opinion is no longer valid from anyone and now outlawed!?
Is Colonel Gadafi back from the dead and running this page now???
@MrOso I would say a gamer is someone who retains their own taste and opinion on the whole medium of gaming.
I would say somebody who raves about fortnite on the playground to his mates is a child. (Not you personally, but the general consensus of positive comments on this game originate from 8-10 years olds discussing games with my son at his school. Any gamer I know highly ranks this game as the epitome of turd.)
@MrOso sorry for not "@ing" you before...
Game modes in other games usually contain different objectives, maps or missions. Not just changing the squad number from 4 to 20 or 50. You're still doing the same thing, on the same map, with the same outcome.
I also wouldn't call different colour pick axes, gliders and emotes a great deal of customization. There's no progression or reason to keep playing, unless you want to brag to the kids in the playground. Why pay to look like everyone else that has also played?
Also PUBG was the first of these BR games to hit the consoles. I don't talk about PC here.
I know "gamers" who play Fortnite and nothing else. They brag about their wins and the amount of hours they play. Throw them on another game with objectives, or different genre, and they play like its the first time they've picked up a controller. They stumble around and call any other game crap.
Yes, Fortnite is one of the biggest things in gaming right now, but it's targeted as a kids game IMO.
@KingSandyRavage Of course it's fine that you have a different opinion of game that's what we are all about here, but what's not fine is when you start insulting people and say that they aren't a gamer because they like X game instead of Y. Just cuase you and your circle of friends don't like Fortnite doesn't mean it's not a game or people who do like it isn't a gamer. Just remember that it takes different people to make the world go round.
Also please watch the insults towards staff as well. If they edited a post there is probably a good reason behind it.
Thanks for Understanding
LOL at all the uninformed Fortnite hate on this site. H1Z1 looks and plays terrible compared to Fortnite. I'd say lots of console players are giving it a shot, since Fortnite is their only experience in BR, and that the lack of polish will quickly dissipate player numbers in addition to better alternatives coming out in the near future.
Played a butnwiht my son because he loves all the battie royale stuff. Im just not into these gsmes. Give me my single player romps with engrossing story (TLOU, Uncharted, The Witcher 3, GOW) and I’m set. I’ll play H1Z1 and Fortnite for my kid but I don’t get frustrated that I’m not good at them because I don’t really care to be.
