Classic FM, the UK's specialist classical music radio station, is teaming up with PlayStation to bring to life an orchestral concert in celebration of video game music.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, the event, known as PlayStation in Concert, will feature music from across PlayStation's history, including PSone, PS2, PS3, and PS4 titles. Performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the City of London Choir, the concert is set to include music from the Uncharted series, The Last of Us, The Last Guardian, Horizon: Zero Dawn, LittleBigPlanet, and many more.
Jessica Curry, the Everybody's Gone to the Rapture composer, will host PlayStation in concert. She's one of the UK's most famed game composers, and presents a show on Classic FM entitled High Score, featuring the best orchestral game music.
Classic FM's Managing Director, Sam Jackson, is very excited about the concert, as well as the increased interest in classical music from young people: "The success of our two series of High Score, and the fact that over half a million under-25-year-olds now listen to Classic FM every week, is proof of a growing younger audience for classical music in the UK. We're really pleased to be partnering with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and PlayStation on this, the first event of its kind, which promises to be an exciting night of world-class music."
PlayStation in Concert takes place at the Royal Albert Hall on 30th May 2018, and tickets are available now. Will you be attending the show? Are you pleased to see game music being recognised in this way? Hum your favourite tune in the comments below.

All i want is that god of war ascencion opening startup theme.best theme ever word up son
Brilliant. Hopefully it does well enough to tour.
RAH is great - but the acoustics aren't a patch on Birmingham's Symphony Hall.
Oh wow - I would love to go to this but I'm afraid I can't afford a trip to the big smoke for this.
This has been announced for awhile guys.
@Rudy_Manchego While train fares can be prohibitive. Check your local coach company. Can be long travel times, and you probably won't have time either end of the gig - but could be significantly cheaper.
Gone are the days now - but National Express used to even do a £5 one way ticket from Brum to London.
@KALofKRYPTON Not a bad idea. Getting a train from where I am is well over a hundred quid, and that's booking over a month in advance and off peak. For work, I've spent £300 to go down for a last minute meeting.
@Rudy_Manchego No Worries. I quite like travelling by coach. Listen, play, read etc...
@KALofKRYPTON Your avatar has the best Orchestral music from the Christopher Reeve series. That literally makes my hairs stand on end.
@themcnoisy True that! Been fortunate enough to have heard it live several times over the years. Never fails, Williams' scores rarely do. Despite Superman being my obvious favourite, hearing Jurassic Park live is something else.
I'd recommend John Otman's Superman Returns score if you like Williams' orginal. The (only slightly) reworked Main Title theme with the more modern recording is really entertaining.
@themcnoisy @KALofKRYPTON I was lucky enough to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra play a science fiction and superhero concert at the Royal Albert Hall quite some time ago, to the point where I can't recall the entire set list, but the memory of hearing John Williams' Superman Theme performed live is one I'll treasure forever (and huge respect for highlighting John Ottman's work on Superman Returns; that score is near-perfect).
I doubt I'll be able to attend this PlayStation concert, but I'd love to and hope they'll record an album for those who aren't fortunate enough to make it.
I wonder if they'll expand into third party franchises? Some Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger music would be most welcome. Also, the London Philharmonic do a lovely rendition of Far Horizons from Skyrim. In fact their 2 Video Game Music albums are great.
@GravyThief check out Final Symphony and Symphonic Fantasies. There's a sequel concert, Final Symphony II being held in Germany this year.
@RogerRoger I got to see Holst's The Planets during proms a couple of years back. Really nice place to be.
But, I would heartily recommend Birmingham's Symphony hall. The sound is unreal.
Their Friday night programme often includes sci-fi and fantasy performances - relatively cheap too. EDIT #2: On point, they've never released the full score to my knowledge. At the very least - the plane rescue (arguably the best scene in the film) music isn't on the album.
EDIT: (As GravyThief points out)For those interested, look for 'The Greatest Video Game Music' albums (they're on streaming services too) - they are are quite excellent. The Legend of Zelda suite by The London Philharmonic is a joy.
@KALofKRYPTON Might be about to make your day... La La Land Records, who release limited edition, rare and complete soundtracks from a variety of films and television shows, have an extensive contract with DC and have released a two-disc complete score of Superman Returns, which is still available (and yes, it has the full suite for the plane rescue).
Here's the DC page of their website: http://www.lalalandrecords.com/Site/DCAnimation.html
@RogerRoger Wow! Never heard of La La Land - may have to indulge. Thanks!
@KALofKRYPTON You're very welcome. I found them via Star Trek; the incredible four-disc collections they've released for each of the spin-off shows have been a childhood dream come true for me in recent years. When I discovered that they had a DC page, and saw things like the three-disc Batman: The Animated Series collections on there, they quickly became a favourite.
It's also worth noting, since we're on Push Square, that they print some key PlayStation scores, including Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and God of War: Ascension.
Man I want to go!!! Im only 2500 miles away...
Classic FM and Curry are doing to good job promoting VGM! Should be on par with Movie Music!
The Classic FM hall of fame is coming up and there will be some VGM on there!
