Jeez, Digital Foundry are busy these days, aren't they? The tech-head publication is back with another PS4 Pro analysis, this time putting Final Fantasy XV's most recent Japanese demo through its paces. Our very own Sammy Barker gave the demo a spin just last week, and came away impressed with how good it looks - but it's actually the HDR settings that Digital Foundry seem so enamoured with.
According to the video that we've embedded, HDR implementation looks "incredibly good", with "unbelievably vibrant colours" and darker shades that "perfectly sit within the scene". To get the point across, the publication caught some off-screen footage of the demo with HDR enabled, and even though it's not a direct capture, you can still see the difference. Here's hoping that the finished release looks just as good.
Will you be playing Final Fantasy XV on a PS4 Pro? Inject some colour into your life in the comments section below.

See, I just couldn't resit playing this with HDR lol
Isn't HDR enabled on standard ps4 though? Even though the cable is definitely an "old" HDMI.
@Feena Yep, but you need a HDR enabled TV of course, which are all 4K to my knowledge..
Yes, for the 60 fps mode
Yeah when I turned on HDR on the demo, my eyes literally fell out. It just looks incredible
And yeah, has nothing to do with PS4 Pro, just that 4K and HDR together are of course even more effective.
Best example of HDR.. or best example of video game?
Looks stunning hopefully they'll spruce it up for 1080p users.
Look at that nice locked frame rate too At 3 minutes they show last years demo for comparison, looks like it's come along. Wonder how it holds up in combat though, no footage in the above video.
I am afraid that the latest game in my favourite series will underperform on the base model. And I so much not want to spend 400 euros now.
So anyone saw Conan playing FF? What a good time he had lol
Getting my 40" UHD with HDR TV tomorrow, can't wait to try it out ^_^, can't wait for FFXV's release!
HDR might be nice, but I couldn't see a difference between "lightweight" and "high quality" mode. Perhaps the differences are primarily noticeable when you're editing footage of the game and have time to squint at objects in the background?
SE ought to launch a proper 1080p 60 fps version of the game on PC down the line.
@Ralizah I couldn't see a difference at all, but I think it's just down to compression. I think the point is more to compare the frame rates between the two versions.
They are releasing a patch for Pro with the aim of 1080p at 60fps.
Looks great I hope they sort that frame pacing out though.
I've just downloaded the demo and WOW this looks amazing in high resolution but especially HDR, there is a huge difference in the colours and lighting to the point where it looks flat and lifeless when I turn it off. Oh and during the intro I thought the flames were going to come out of the TV. I wish more games were using HDR as only very few seem to at the moment and this is comfortably the best example I've seen so far. I was going to wait to buy this but I may have to get day one now
The Last of Us: Remastered is out now has HDR support if you want to show off your HDR-enabled display a bit earlier (it really does look gorgeous)! Looking forward to getting to grips with FFXV at the end of this month though
I have my pro just waiting for some FF15 action. Gosh it is sooo close now.
I went from a 43 inch 720p TV to a 43 inch 4k UHD TV and the difference burned my eyes. I can never go back...
