Manchester City may not have been able to solidify their early season dominance last week, dropping points against Celtic in the Champions League and losing to Tottenham in the Premier League – but FIFA 17 has managed what Pep Guardiola couldn't. The soccer sim, despite being considered inferior to this year's PES 2017: Pro Evolution Soccer, has scored a hat-trick or three – smashing the series' already ginormous sales record.
Early estimates put the title's first week numbers at well over one million units, with 53 per cent of the software share coming courtesy of the PlayStation 4. That'll be considered a very good result by Sony considering that Microsoft had the official bundle and all of the marketing rights. To be fair, though, the platform holder was flogging the title in £150 bundles across the UK last week, which surely helped its cause.
Elsewhere, that same promotion saw LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens power its way into third in the charts, while 2K Games secured a double header between BioShock: The Collection and XCOM 2 in fourth and fifth respectively. Down in the lower end of the top ten, Destiny: The Collection, Rocket League, NBA 2K17, and Grand Theft Auto V occupied the spots.

53% sales, guess those Xbox bundles were kinda pointless lol
Shock! Will GTA V slip off the top ten list?

FTFY
My favorite argument FIFA fans always use to "prove" FIFA is the better game is FIFA's incredible sales numbers. The game is indeed selling like hotcakes, but so are One Direction albums... I do hope the change to the Frostbite- engine will allow for EA to improve on the actual gameplay, not just the lighting. The atmosphere in FIFA 17 is impeccable, but the moment the whistle blows to start the match we're back to wading through the usual molasses.
Last year's PES just had a slight edge over FIFA because the latter was saved by its licenses and excellent FUT, but this year we just can't ignore the huge difference in approach on the pitch. I hear people saying FIFA is supposed to be "realistic", but if you put Barcelona's players in a Real Madrid shirt in PES you'll immediately notice something's off; the way PES recreates the different playstyles of teams, how it lets you pass the ball like in rl, how players move intuitively and how it makes you feel your goals are earned is just incredible and makes it feel like actual football.
Chuffed for Rocket League! Still in the top ten despite it being free upon release!
GTA V STILL in the top ten? How long now, two years after release? Considering it's always in the top three Live on Playstation streams etc, there's an argument for most popular game of all time there.
Is this the first time UC4 dropped out of the top 10? I think there will be an impending price drop just before the holiday season.
I'm so chuffed that Rocket League has done well at retail.
@Grawlog you're possibly assuming nobody bought Fifa on PS3 or Xbox 360?
@Grawlog 40% share I see they got despite the higher popularity of Xbox in the Uk than Europe and very cheap bundles for both one and one s, I'd say it's a slight failure not to come close.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Nearly every game sold better on ps4 rather than xb1, doesn't care if the games got xbox bundle or not lol
@Rudy_Manchego Oh my god, Rockstar may need to release another game!
Good to see XCom 2 getting a chart place.
As expected. I'll probably get FIFA 17 along with all the other masses.
last year, FIFA 16 sold 432K on PS4 on its launch week in the UK, and was a 45% share (total sales of 960K). FIFA 17 is up 18%, which would equate to about 1.13m sales, so PS4 share would be 600K, and 453K for the XB1 share (including all the official console bundles). FH3 is around 40-50K. given that rocket league was selling about 3-4K total two weeks ago, FIFA likely accounts for 90%+ of all physical games sold in the UK last week.
