FIFA 17 has its very own story mode - something completely new to the long running series. Separate from the traditional career mode, 'The Journey' will follow wannabe star Alex Hunter, who you'll play as throughout. As Alex, you'll have control both on and off the pitch, as you decide how the narrative plays out through interviews and interactions with other characters.
It actually sounds like a pretty ambitious addition, and for the development team, it was initially something totally alien. As such, in an interview with PlayStation Access, producer Garreth Reeder reveals that the studio actually visited the role-playing game veterans at BioWare to get ideas during development. According to Reeder, the team learned a lot from the makers of Mass Effect, and that'll supposedly be clear to see in The Journey's branching narrative.

Turning up for training in your Mako?
Rooney romance option
So they asked a bunch of Canadians / Americans about how they should implement a story mode in a soccer game.
Instant failure.
@ShadowofSparta Brilliant.
@sub12 Pretty sure most of FIFA's dev team is based in Canada, mind!
Realism is the key; there's an option to sulk with your teammates and refuse to play and edit your own family tree to blag your way into the Irish national team.
It's just me or this would work better with the Carrer Mode instead of like this?
Sounds awful
Weird but I want it.
