Fans of Gogglebox – the bizarrely popular British television show which shows people watching, er, television – will be in for a treat this evening: Sony has bought the entire first ad block during tonight's episode on Channel 4. According to a press release, it will use the time to run a live Twitter competition, while showing off a large chunk of uninterrupted Uncharted 4: A Thief's End gameplay.
"We believe Uncharted 4 is the best-looking game ever made, which is a bold statement and one we want to reinforce," said group marketing manager Lauren Bradley. "The ad break takeover with Channel 4 has given us the perfect format for doing so and showing off this extraordinary game to its fullest."
Those who participate in the live competition will be in the running to win a "treasure trove" of PlayStation prizes. The victors will be announced during an ad break later in the show. The partnership doesn't end there, however, as the platform holder has also created some Uncharted-themed idents which will be running on the channel today. It did a similar thing for the PlayStation 4 launch.
Gogglebox may not be the sort of show associated with gamers, but we think that's probably the point. The high ratings programme presumably targets families, and with Sony's comments about the visual fidelity, we reckon that it's probably trying to sell the game to Mum and Dad so that Little Timmy doesn't have to work hard to convince them to purchase a PlayStation 4 for his birthday.

The reaction to this will be interesting. If it hits, might even see more from companies in the future (f they can afford it). At least that's one adbreak I'd actually watch
For once I actually wish I had a TV connected to an aerial.
Never watched Gogglebox, but I'll record it just to watch the ad. That's a first!
Hey, when its your only truly great first party exclusive in almost three years, you better promote it!!!
I thought it said they bought Channel 4 completely + talking of UK TV Channels, this week we finally got Channel 5 HD!? after waiting over 5/6!? years for it to come to FreeView owners(pathetic that) I guess we will get 4K UK TV in 2050 then
@Fight_Teza_Fight me too!
@sub12 I'll take the bait: Ratchet & Clank? Bloodborne? Until Dawn? Resogun? inFAMOUS: Second Son?
Patiently awaits response about how some of these are second-party
@get2sammyb
Yeah, I believe the only one to get above a 90 on metacritic is Bloodborne, which is basically a FromSoftware title (we all know Studio Japan could not pull off that kind of quality alone, lol). The rest are good, not great (great like Uncharted 4).
Sony isn't Nintendo when it comes to it's own software.
@get2sammyb Driveclub, Tearaway Unfolded, Killzone Shadow Fall, Infamous First Light and any MLB game. Anything I've left off?
@sub12 Shame Nintendo's current console's barely outsold the Dreamcast, then, really. (I love the Dreamcast).
@sub12 that's 'cause if Nintendo didn't make so many games they'd have none for there console.
@itshoggie @get2sammyb
Nintendo has been tripping over itself hardware wise since the N64, but that hasn't stopped them from making great software.
Saw a great ad for it here in the states, seriously can't wait for this one. And about Nintendo, they make great productdls, for my 9 year old.
@Majic12
Ohh bro, burn!!!! Those little Nintendo nerds don't know real games like COD and Madden, am I right bro.....or am I right?
Just reached chapter 3, it's amazing.
@sub12 @get2sammyb @adf86
I have to second adf. Driveclub had so many issues when it launched, it deserved the score it received. However, if it were to be re-reviewed, I'm sure it would be in the high 80s or lower 90s. It's that good.
And MLB The Show is always solid.
@lacerz
Yes, I totally agree with that, Driveclub ended up being an excellent game. I played a bit online last night and I noticed that the community is starting to slow down, which is sad.
