Clearly Japan has no interest at all in the PlayStation Vita.

The region went nuts for the new handheld, with heavy queues outside popular retailers and online allocations scooped up within minutes.

It all makes a Japanese survey — conducted by Goo Research — seem a bit flimsy. The firm claims that from a sample of 1083 consumers, just 10% want to buy Sony's new handheld. The survey furthers that more than half of those sampled weren't interested at all in the system.

But the research seems completely unfounded when compared to the enormous surge in PlayStation Vita interest when pre-orders opened in Japan earlier in the year. Is this is a case of a bad survey sample and a lethal dose of FUD?

We'll find out for certain when PlayStation Vita launches in Japan on December 17th.
