"You Could Always Spend More Money On..."

41 today. That's right folks, if you switch on your shiny PlayStation 3 right now, the console will ask you to perform a system update to put your hardware in tip-top condition. But what's Sony giving in return for this inconvenience? Well actually, not a lot.

The firmware adds a "You May Like" function to the PlayStation Store. So, for example — say you've just pulled the trigger on PixelJunk Shooter; the PlayStation Store will respond by saying, "Yo, hey little customer, so you like retro styled dual-joystick shooters? That's cool. Well how about you take a look at Gravity Crash too." And you'll then click on it and spend even more money. Genius? Well yeah, it's a bit like Apple's and Amazon's technology in-fact.

We're not denying it's cool because it clearly is. Our gripe is thus: why release this firmware now, instead of saving it for part of a bigger firmware update?

There's more over on the US PlayStation Blog. Sony says that PSP firmware 6.31 is also on the way, and will add stability to some titles.
