Topic: "Confirmed! Your exclusive invitation to order a PS5 console"

Just had an email from Sony entitled "Confirmed! Your exclusive invitation to order a PS5 console".

It goes on to say that I have "EXCLUSIVE ACCESS ON: 15 November, 08:00 – 10:00 GMT."

Does that sound legit?

@sanderson72 It sounds like the opposite of legit to be honest. What email address has it been sent from?

@sanderson72 My friend has received a similar email, from PlayStation Direct, yes? Have you signed into the new PlayStation Direct website in the past couple days?

@RogerRoger If it’s truly legit then that’s some bloody dodgy sounding email from Sony! The all caps does not help 😂

@nessisonett Yeah, I've just seen a shot of my friend's email's details and, despite its formatting, it seems to check out. I guess it's part of the PlayStation Direct rollout here in the UK.

With a whole 36 hours before the window hits, I'm sure we'll know, one way or another.

@sanderson72 If you are unsure that is fake or not, check the email for spelling mistakes, especially in any of the websites or email address contained in it. Another thing to look out for, is legit ones will usually personalise the email with your name. The fake ones will mostly not and usually have something generic like 'Dear Customer'.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@sanderson72 Putting parts of what you wrote into Google brings up plenty of Reddit posts about it and it sounds legit. But I’d certainly make sure the sender is a proper email address as it would be easy to clone the image.

The address it comes from is [email protected] so it sort of looks legit?

The email doesn't mention me by name, PSN ID or 'Dear Customer'. It says I was selected because "Selection is based on previous interests and PlayStation activities".
Now, I DO keep getting those survey emails from Players Lounge(?) which I normally participate in and obviously I play on the PS4 Pro and the Vita so they know I'm an active Playstation-er if the email is from Sony.

How to participate in the event:
1. On the date and time of the event, click your unique “Access Event” link during the exclusive access window for a private PS5 shopping experience on Direct.PlayStation.com.
2. Log in using your email address associated with your PSN ID.
3. Purchase your PS5 console.

No mention of making a money transfer to the Bank Of Nigeria or anything suspect.

Now the ironic part: I'm really not interested in a PS5 at the moment - been waiting for a must have exclusive to PS5 only title and I'm still waiting!

For some reason, I kept mine from back in June when I got the same email and ordered mine. Looking back at mine, your email seems to be 100% legit. They've changed it up a little it seems, but that's the exact email address they sent mine from with the exact same title.

@sanderson72
Well, you have to consider whether you'll be required to use your credit card at some point.

Well that time passed, so what happened?

I'm in the US, got the same email. Assuming it was from signing up a month ago when Pushsquare published that article. Though b/c I'm such a pessimist it did quickly occur to me that it could be a trap. It took me a second to think that though b/c I had just signed up a month ago and shortly after that I got an email saying registration received so my first thought was legit. Then I clicked on the link, then I checked the email. All worked out to be legit so far. Hadn't thought about hitting about Reddit as someone else here mentioned.

My window is tomorrow afternoon from 2-4, I'll check in after that.

@rjejr Meh, couldn't be bothered in the end. At the end of the day I already have a PS4 Pro with a fast SSD in it so why buy another one?

Controversial? Well, until an actual PS5 only (or even next gen only multi-platform) title makes an appearance that makes me want the PS5, I'll wait. The Pro's still getting all the enhanced new releases and it's running quiet and quick so there's no rush.

In all seriousness, good luck in getting one if you want one - at least there should be one more in circulation for anyone that does!

@rjejr My friend's email turned out to be legitimate... we hope. She waited in a queue for a couple of minutes and then was able to purchase a standard console. It's due to arrive today so, unless DPD deliver a crate of cat food in the next couple of hours, all's well that ends well.

@RogerRoger If it was the same as the OP's, you should be good as it was from the same email address that mine was sent from back in June when I got my PS5 from Sony. Somebody can't make a fake email address of that when Sony already owns it.

@KilloWertz Thank you, yeah, it should be a-okay. This side of the holidays, and this close to 'em, I'm real happy for her. I think Sony must send out invitations based on player data analysis, because the amount she plays, she absolutely deserved to be at the top of the UK's first list.

@RogerRoger Thank you. I hope I don't get cat food though, I don't have a cat. Fingers crossed.

@sanderson72 Thanks for the reply. And I hear ya. It's completely blowing my mind that I'm willing to spend $500 for a new video game console when my old 1 - PS4 Slim - plays almost all of the same games. But I have 2 teenage kids and it's all they want for Christmas so it's $500 for this or figure out what else to buy my kids. Ok and myself too.

@rjejr No, I get the fact that the PS5 is in extremely high demand and I suppose it's people 'future-proofing' themselves in terms of what might come but I've not seen anything even announced that makes me feel like I need/want one.
Going to a PS5 from a base PS4 and yes, you'll notice the difference no doubt but from a Pro with SSD and I really can't justify it yet.
I think I can spend less than £450 (+ £60 for another controller + £30 for a charging dock, etc.) on other things with Christmas looming.

@jimmer nice to hear from someone who's got one that can be objective about it!

Got 1. I'm too burned out from all the stress - being a parent and buying your kids gifts for the holidays is hard - but here's my mind melting on twitter if you're interested.
