Elden Ring for sure and, to my surprise, GT7. I haven't ever been a racing fan, played Mario Kart 8 more than any other racer! But that SOP was amazing and the game just felt intoxicating, looks so much fun and it has made me far more excited than I would have imagined for a racing sim.

I have Horizon: Forbidden West (PS5) and Tiny Tinas Wonderlands (XSX) pre-ordered so those are the next two games I am planning to 'buy'...

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

In terms of games, I'm considering buying The Outer Worlds on PS4. I originally wanted to play it on Game Pass but because it's a fairly lengthy game if you want to do everything, then I might as well just buy a physical copy of it. And it looks pretty dang good, it will definitely scratch that itch for Fallout-like games.

In terms of DLC, I'm planning on getting the two expansions for Assassin's Creed Origins since both are on sale now and the season pass for Marvel's Spider-Man. I need something to motivate me though since I haven't played Origins yet and I'll need to play through the main story of Spider-Man again because I lost my original save file and I don't know how I feel about the game all these years later. So I'm going to play the recent Assassin's Creed Odyssey Crossover DLC and after that play through a bit of Spider-Man just to get a feel for both of these series again.

GT7 (because just look at my screen name lol) and Stray (waiting on reviews).

I'm 2 x trophies away from hitting Platinum on Ghost of Tsushima (base game), and will likely next start the Director Cut / Iki Island!

The idea was that GoT would keep me warm until Elden Ring drops... BUT I also brought SIFU this morning based on reviews, and difficulty curve. So I might break before Iki Island, hit SIFU and then be ready for Elden Ring.

Am torn on HFW, never played the original but must confess it looks awesome. But the backlog is big, ER is on cusp of release, so I might wait to see if HFW goes on sale later this year.

@CJD87 Do you have interest in just trying the original Horizon Zero Dawn first? I think the complete edition was given out last year for PS+ or the Play at Home giveaways.

I have Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring and SIFU: Vengeance Edition on pre-order… so they’re already ‘bought’ really. So the next game I’m gonna pull the trigger on is the Atari Arcade Evercade collection as soon as Amazon get some more in stock.

**** DLC!

CJD87

@Th3solution I was lucky enough to get this for free on Ps+! It’s downloaded but never played…

Just not sure where I’d fit in such a huge game.

So I think the plan will be to finish GoT platinum, dabble with SIFU, go back to GoT Iki Island… then be ready for Elden Ring Day #1

Where do you stand on HFW vs ER, which will you prioritise out of interest? Maybe ready for a Souls-holiday after wrestling with DeS?!

not a ps5 game that’s for sure . i’ve been contemplating buying ultimate spider-man for my gamecube , honestly . i’ve been having the urge to replay it for about 2 years now , but somehow , somehow , lost the damn disc . its one of my favorite spider-man games and was my favorite until spider-man ps4 came out . i wanna refresh my memory with ultimate spider-man though , so i may buy it online soon .

@CJD87 I’m gradually talking myself out of playing or buying any of the big games on day 1. So yeah — Demon’s Souls being recently on my palate, I’ll not plan on Elden Ring yet. In fact, depending on reviews, I might play Dark Souls 3 first anyways, since I already own it. But if people are falling all over themselves praising Elden Ring as the greatest gift to humankind since the invention of fire, then I might go ahead and make it my next Souls-like. But even then, I think it’ll be a few months down the road.

“So then you’re going to be playing Horizon Forbidden West on day 1…” you might be thinking. Well, no, actually not. I really liked the first game but I’m willing to wait a little and I’m not quite feeling it yet. Might as well wait for the price drops. I actually never played the Frozen Wilds and I have that too as part of the Ps+ offering, so it’s feasible to play that instead if I have a Horizon itch. But again, the same thing applies whereby I’m open to change course if the critical reception rolls in and starts handing out Game of the Century awards right away.

So that leaves Gran Turismo 7. If you’d have asked me a couple weeks ago (and I think I did post somewhere on here a couple weeks ago) I would have told you that of the big games this quarter it was the only one I was going to buy day 1. Well… I’m having second thoughts because I’m playing Dirt 5 and although it’s unworthy of even holding Gran Turismo’s tire jack, it’s given me enough of a satisfaction for racing and I’m not nearly as hungry for a racer as I was a few weeks ago.

So I’m really torn now. I’m not sure I’ll buy anything for a few months. Maybe Forspoken ….it’s definitely a wild card here. It looks pretty awesome in my opinion, but it’s a new IP and it’s very possible it’s a complete piece of garbage to play.

So for now, it’s more of the backlog. Finish DeS and Dirt 5 and then probably start Mass Effect since I’m on the clock now with plopping down $5 yesterday for 3 months of EA Play.

But to answer the question (sorry for the tangential monologue) between HFW and ER I’ll probably play/buy HFW first, even if that ends up being in April or May.

@Th3solution

Interestingly I actually on DS3 as well, and attempted to kick it off after getting my Plat on DeS...
But I must (somewhat embaressingly) confess that I really struggled to get on board with the graphical concessions, due to playing the game straight after DeS.

This is not to say that DS3 looks 'bad', and certainly runs incredibly smooth with the 60FPS patch (!), but in comparrison to DeS it almost looks prehistoric. This is moreso a compliment to DeS, which is perhaps one of the most beautiful games I have ever played.

Fearing 'Souls-fatique' ahead of ER, and also struggling with the graphical downgrade, I made the shout to jump into GoT instead (not regretting).

I hear nothing but great things about ME, and especially ME2, so am sure you'll have a blast. I still think there is also a shed-ton of replayability in DeS, and I've enjoyed invasions since completing.

Happy gaming mate, I'm still holding out for Returnal DLC ha!

CJD87

@velio84 I hear that from a lot of people re. DS3>DeS! If it wasnt for ER being right around the corner, then I likely would have stuck with DS3.... for the meantime though it can have a high-status spot in the expanding backlog.
Nice work preordering all 3 of the 'big hitters', going to be a busy few months for you

I think I'm probably going to be going the Horizon FW, Elden Ring and GT7 trio like some others. Out of all of those I'm most excited for HFW as I loved the first one so much. From seeing the latest videos it just looks incredible and if everything is tweaked from ZD then it's just going to be even better.

Since playing DeS I'm also really excited for ER although I do still need to go back to DeS to bag the platinum. I might start making inroads into that this weekend. ER will probably take a while to get through so I'll be well up for a racing game to intersperse with that.

Also really interested in Sifu as I love the art style, and it also sounds like a great challenge, so I might get that later on down the road.

@CJD87 Thanks you the thoughts and tempering expectations for DS3. It’ll be a while until I try it, even in the best of circumstances, so maybe I’ll have forgotten how fetching DeS looks in comparison by then. 😄

And GoT is a really great game. I quite enjoyed it, so much so that getting the platinum was a pleasant experience and a natural extension of my getting the most out of the game. I haven’t bought the Iki Island expansion stuff. I have this mental block against DLC (as evidenced by me dragging my feet to get around to Frozen Wilds also) and very rarely go back to games I’ve completed. I’ve got mixed feelings about any Returnal DLC as a result. It’s a game that would be interesting to see what DLC could do for it, but practically speaking I’m not sure I’d ever play an expansion. Another example for me is the FF7R Yuffie DLC, where I was really planning to play that after finishing the game last year, but I just can’t bring myself to hit the ‘purchase’ button. DLC always seems so anti-climactic to me. If a game is done right and has a satisfying epic ending, the DLC always feels ‘tacked on’ to me.
The only recent exception for me has been the Control DLC which was integrated into the PS5 edition of the game so that it just felt like a natural part of the game and so I played it almost without realizing it was actually DLC.

Speaking of DLC… yeah, I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 and 3 quite a lot. Apparently the Legendary Edition Remasters have all the DLC included, which I never played the first go around. Hopefully they are smoothly integrated because especially ME3 is supposed to have benefited greatly from the endgame DLC which I never experienced. I also never got to play the first game, since it wasn’t on PlayStation at the time. So looking forward to seeing where it all began.
