Sony and Panasonic have announced that they are planning to increase the storage capacity of the blu-ray disc from 25GB to 33.4GB.
The report from Nikkei states the technology "assumes inter-symbol interference, which makes it difficult to base optical disc quality evaluation on jitter, as is widely done now for Blu-ray and many other optical discs." Quite.
All blu-ray players with the ability to firmware update will support the new technology, and the space increase will be compatible with dual-layered blu-rays - enabling the possibility of a 66.8GB disc.
Dude.
