Not sure what to grab. I have been initially hesitant on Final Fantasy 16, Dragons Dogma 2, and Rise of the Ronin.

Bored with my backlog at the moment and looking to pull the trigger on one. What do you suggest and why?

(fyi, my Hesitations on each are as follows:

-Ronin: love soulslikea, but really dislike team ninjas loot systems. Also hesitant on the world design, ac like open world, and reasons to explore.

-FF16: linearity, technical hiccups, simplified action combat, side missions, reasons to explore

-DD2: linearity of open world if that makes sense, technical limitations, and lack control f enemy variety(growing stale) rewarding exploration?

Thanks for your insights

@KundaliniRising333 Dragon's Dogma, for me is a guaranteed win if you want to just get lost in a world that draws you to explore naturally while ignoring/waiting for opportune moments to complete quests.

It's definitely not a go to point A as soon as suggested, go to point B game. It's a start a quest and then f*** off to do whatever draws your attention type game.

It's the only game that really properly drew me in so far this year tbh.

FF16 I really enjoyed until I got sidetracked with Baldur's Gate 3, and when I eventually went back to it I didn't like it quite as much as the world had become quite bland. But as an action-er it is pretty much fight after fight after fight, which is quite pleasing if you like boss fights. Like, you could get a bit of story, fight off waves of enemies, eventually get to a big boss, destroy the boss, and then instantly be met with more enemies after a cutscene 😁 It's certainly a wild ride while you're focused on it.

How about Kingdom Come: Deliverance instead? 🤯

@KundaliniRising333 haven't played Rise of the Ronin yet, but it is on my to buy list soon. I have played the other 2 and my vote is for Dragons Dogma 2. Yes the issue of enemy variety is there, but has less negative effect do to how alive the world is. An example: fighting many goblins especially early, but at any moment wolf or harpies might wonder into the fight and change your tactics as they fight each other too. A great one for me was a long fight I was having with a dragon I wondered into during the night..oops. It started at night and morning came as the fight raged on. I was barley surviving as I was low level, but then a griffin swooped in and it was an epic Battle of two behemoths and me and my group running around like ants. I ended up killing them both due to the big mobs distracting each other half the time. One of the best fights I've had in gaming. This alive world along with discovery around every corner made this game for me. To be fair I enjoyed the first dragons dogma, but this one just adds on and made everything better. The story is only so so. The pawn system is fantastic and the variety of vocations is great. Each one truly feels different and the fact that you can change it up is great. Sorry for all the blabbering. You can see how much I enjoy it lol. Hope you enjoy with what ever you choose!

DD2 would be my pick of the bunch, but you'd likely be safe with whatever you choose. @KundaliniRising333 you seem quite grounded in your assessments of these games though, and the flaws you've pointed out are fairly in line with majority-consensus.

Left-field - I assume answer is "yes", but have you played Elden Ring? You seem to dislike linearity, and Elden Ring is a truly 'open' world with so much player-agency as to how you approach the game. Great build diversity and challenge, yet quite accessible for newcomers to the 'Souls' formula. Perfect time to jump in also, as DLC is about 6 weeks away

@Ravix @Elodin Thank you all for your insights. I went ahead and went for DD2, spent a half hour creating my ripped Timothy chalamet character complete with the blue dune spice eyes lol.
@CJD87 I have played, loved and ultimately got the plat in Elden Ring. So not out of left field on that.

I ultimately chose Dragon's Dogma mainly because I am the type of player that actually enjoys getting distracted, exploring and going off on massive tangents so it sounds like it's a great title for that alone. By the time I got around to trying the first one it felt so dated that it was hard to get into it so even though this sounds more like a second attempt at that original game I'm still excited to jump in now that it is a little more updated. Cheers!!
