Maybe this is why I don't work at Nintendo or Sony, I'm perhaps not seeing what they see as a potential gold mine in the handheld space. My thoughts on the matter are that we already have two very powerful platforms already in people's pockets. The worldwide reachable market share for iOS and Android is unfathomable. Why not save the money from bespoke handheld hardware development and instead just focus on first-party game development. I understand that Google and Apple take a pretty huge cut of the profit of app sales. Why not cut Apple out of the loop (because you can't side-load on it) and focus on Android side-loading and keep that cut?
