Believe it or not but this is actually the MINI controller which is roughly a quarter of the size of a full sized controller. Mind you, a full size hasn't been announced for F 2nd, and the previous releases are limited and therefore now hard to find.
To compare: Mini controller is 370x225x60mm, 1.7kg out of the box Full sized controller is 690x430x70mm, 7kg, features actual project diva arcade sized buttons which just like the arcade, stand lit up and dim when you press them, it used to cost ¥ 33,900 or roughly $330 USD.
I have used both controllers and own the full size. When you play these games for thousands of hours and the controller works fine for all previous installments as well (which you still play for certain songs), it doesn't seem like a lot of money spent.
The big mistake with the design of the large PDF controller is that the touch panel is hard to find in the frey, becomes unresponsive quickly, and only supports a single touch point which I understand makes it useless for F 2nd. The workaround is to fix a standard controller where you feel most comfortable to access the analogue sticks when required. Hopefully F 2nd will also let you use any controller that is currently switched on so you can still do this.
Either that or constantly use the help item that assigns star notes to the L/R buttons... Mind you, those are probably hard to hit quickly as well
