Re: 'It's Fun and Looks Amazing': PSVR2's Next Must-Have May Be Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

Ya, it sucks that both Quest 3 & PSVR2 games need to run in 90fps to bypass that ghosting/motion duplication effect. I hear the Steam Frame can do 72fps without repro because the panel itself has no native refresh rate or something.

As is, playing Microsoft Flight Simulator with a Crystal Super micro-OLED(4K per eye, Micro-OLED etc) on a 5090 is as good as it gets, with Base stations & Index controllers. $11,000(CAD) later haha.

I'd rather play Flight Simulator with the Steam Frame on a 4090, than with a PSVR2 + PS5 Pro. PSVR2 is taking forever getting these VR ports, when they've already been available on PC for months to years, or Quest 3 depending.

PSVR2's fresnel lens clarity sucks, including the mura, awful form factor, onion ring controllers, it's lower ppd combined with it's PenTile based OLED result in a less detailed softer image(Combined with the fresnel lenses which can't compete against Pancake).

Great blacks, Vibrant Colours, Eye Tracking + DFR, controller haptics & adaptive triggers, including it's 85% Stereo overlap are great and all, but PSVR2's blemishes are sticking out even more as better headsets continuet to come out. Still keeping mine for now, just RE9 VR mode, if it happens! If not, PSVR2 is going in the tub. I'll keep it for now just to compare the same games running on a Steam Frame with a PC that's like a PS5 Pro Adjescent, but i'll just sell it off sooner than later.

RE8 VR already has a PCVR mod, which supposedly is an overall much better experience with better headsets. RE4 VR Mode was great too, at least with the village section, but i don't care to revist that one in particular anyways.

There isn't a single game on Quest 3 that can come remotely close to the experience i had with RE Village on PSVR2. I've had both headsets since launch btw.

In the end, both the PSVR2 & Quest 3 have their draw backs. PSVR2 faulters with it's fresnel lens clarity, tiny sweet spot, terrible bulky form factor, Mura, it uses a PenTile arranged OLED display which has a lower sub pixel count than Quest 3's RGB LCD, it's not a comfortable headset(Flimsy useless thin rubber that doesn't act as a padded interface at all), the controllers have Rings, and the cable is really annoying for stand-up VR titles.

But then, Quest 3 is dissapointing becuase it has poor black levels/contrast, duller colours, a weak 70% Stereo Overlap(Meaning, how good it's stereoscopic 3D depth perception is, just that convincing three dimensionality effect which is the entire point of VR). PSVR2's is higher at 85% and combined with it's OLED blacks the 3D effect is just more convincing and has stronger impact. Plus, Q3 has no eye tracking to help out with it's weak stand alone power, and it has noticeable image compression and latency for PCVR. BTW, Stereo overlap maxes out at 95%, as it does with Pimax's Curent Crystal Super Micro-OLED using the right distortion profile, along with their upcoming Dream Air & Dream Air SE.

Love being tethered free though, Q3's pancake lenses are fantastic, it has higher ppd, no Mura, RGB display, Ring-less Controllers, it's smaller & lighter, and much more comfortable. it's exclusive to MR Games, Theatre Elsewhere, VR Enhanced Cinema, it's even great for shopping online.

Overall, both headsets have their streangths and weakness, and both are worth owning. I'm getting the Steam Frame day one since it seems to bring fourth the best of both worlds, with the only real caveat being that it's not using Micro-OLED and instead, LCD.

If the Steam Frame had Micro-OLED and there was a Steam machine Pro that had more power than a PS5 it would be game over for PSVR2 moving forward, IF Resident Evil Requiem VR doesn't get a PSVR2 mode. If RE9 VR doesn't happen, than it's a VR-wrap for me moving forward. i plan on replacing it with a Steam Frame and a PC that's a bit more powerful than a PS5 Pro. The LCD blacks are going to suck, but it does nearly everything better than PSVR2, and especially Q3.
