@Cherip-the-Ripper I'm still not even sure if it will go F2P, especially when you see in the dead hours it's already had a massive drop down to 4 digits once already, so there's really not a crowd for this outside the US it seems, especially to justify running servers around the world, let alone when the players who tried F2P at the server slam seem to say they had enough of it from that to not buy in.
Personally I'd go with Sony and shutter the studio because ultimately at this point...what are you losing?
The people who built Halo are long gone, the people who built Destiny 1 are long gone, the people who built Destiny 2 are long gone and their current active IP is basically abandoned Destiny 2 and Marathon already looking like it's going to slowly fade over a few months as well.
Save a literal handful of staff that are decent from the gunplay team to move to a new studio and bin the rest, as the reality has become that Bungie exists in name only unfortunately.
@Cherip-the-Ripper In this modern age of access journalism and everything has to be a 7 of higher so they don't get blacklisted or removed from free codes then saying reviews are good means very little unfortunately. The drop off in players speaks volumes though when it's done the same during all it's playtests too, lots of intrigue but within a short timeframe drops off massively. People want to sit and talk about the game doing "fine" because they enjoy it but ultimately this is a huge studio, huge backing, huge marketing and they can't even hit bad Destiny 2 DLC numbers as a peak? That's massively worrying signs, especially when news last year was that Marathon not being a hit could spell the end of Bungie where Sony were looking at dissembling the studio to recoup the money they invested. Bungie not releasing sales figures and trying to hype up the recent content drop as "completely changing the game" (likely to try and get a second wind of buys) probably means it's still under 1 million buys. If the player base continues to leak over time like it currently is I'd say 6 months and we're looking at shut down or free to play but even then I think free to play wouldn't change that people seem to get bored with Marathon relatively quick and the server slam being free didn't exactly do crazy numbers to justify moving in that direction either.
Guys it's only going to get better! Release 88k concurrent peak Weekend 1: 79k Weekend 2: 59k Weekend 3: 49k before the new content dropped 53k after the new drop. Weekend 4 predictions anyone? I've got 48k because it's "only going to get better" lol
