When the Pro first released and the first few months after, I felt it was very worth it. Lots of updates to games and patches after the fact fixed issues that did arise.
At this point, nearly a year later, it feels less worth it. Even moreso when AAA titles are skipping PS5 Pro support entirely, like Borderlands 4. With each release like Silent Hill f, it pushes me further and further into the gaming PC/Steam eco-system. Shame, cuz I’m a console gamer first and love everything that comes with being in the PlayStation ecosystem. But its becoming a little bit of a “death by a thousand cuts” scenario with each subpar Pro release.
@SleeplessKnight if the base PS5 price holding since launch has taught us anything, it’s that none of the internal components are getting any cheaper for Sony, so there’s no savings to pass along to the consumer.
People online are praising Nintendo for their pricing and can’t wait to see the Super Switch for $400…Nintendo has charged people the same price for a console with 2013 mobile internals…in 2024. It’s highway robbery and when the Super Switch comes out for the same price, they’re going to be praised for doing the same with 2019 mobile internals.
You’re getting a lot more with the PS5 Pro at its price than the Switch or Super Switch but the uncharted territory nature of the pricing of the Pro is making a lot of folks lose perspective on actual value.
@SleeplessKnight I’m not saying this thing will sell well. But it’s still a great machine at a great price. Both statements can be true.
After taxes up here in Canada, this machine will be $1047. It’s a lot of money. But it’s still considerably less money than the $3500 my 4080 laptop cost that I bought earlier this year. And I guarantee most games will run better on the PS5 Pro than my laptop.
The value IS there, but the price is still too high.
@Anthony_Daniels this is an unpopular opinion, but price to performance ratio is still through the roof with this console at this price. It’s big time sticker shock for a lot of console gamers for sure, but in the age of $600-700 “mid-range” GPU prices, PC gamers have grown accustomed to this sort of pricing

That said, I get. It’s a big number.

It’s actually a better-than-good game. But good is not good enough to take me away from Fortnite, COD and Apex
