Re: 'How Do We Help Her Evolve?': Crystal Dynamics on Reimagining Tomb Raider's Lara Croft for a New Era

“Some legends are destined to be retold”
The way I interpret the teaser is that the older Lara — the one we’ll experience in Catalyst — is telling the story of Atlantis, and that we will be playing through that story.

Perhaps a bit like Tomb Raider: Chronicles, where different people share their memories of Lara, and those memories - those adventures - become the levels we play… I think Lara will tell her own adventure this time.

I'm cautiously optimistic Lara looks fantastic in both trailers. In the Catalyst trailer she does indeed seem a bit older and more experienced. Personally, I think this is a very interesting approach.

As a fan from the very beginning, I’m less interested in the remake because I’ve played through this story countless times already. But for Lara Croft’s legacy, it’s great that a new generation of gamers will get to experience this story — and maybe become fans themselves... who knows!

I've been a TR fan since the first game from '96. Sure, I have some pretty strong opinions about the whiney reboot Lara, but I accepted a long time ago that this is just a different version of Lara. What I really like is that after 28 years (ouch) Lara is still popular and is being made accessible to a new younger audience.

Based on the first three episodes I've seen so far, I'm not disappointed. In my oppinion It has the right elements (action, traveling, mystery, humour etc.) And since this series is supposed to bridge the gap between reboot- and original Lara and with a new game on its way, i'm really curious and excited about the future of Tomb Raider.
