Re: Guide: How to Extend the Cable Length of Your PS4 Camera

RomansFiveEight

Sony's insistence on proprietary components is very annoying. I just picked up a couple of microSD 64GB cards for a helmet-mounted camera of mine for about 1/3 of what I paid for my 16GB vita memory card. And the camera cable? Yes, that's a pain. And here's another reason why!

Many of us have our TV's wall mounted, with the cables in the wall. I need an extension in order to put the camera atop the TV and run the cables through the wall. If it were USB; then I could use CL2 rated USB cabling which is the appropriate cable for going in the wall. While in many areas (mine including) low voltage wiring is a bit more lax; in some areas that could actually be a building code violation. (I still use in-wall rated low voltage cabling for insurance purposes. Insurance companies love to deny claims for silly things like that; so it was well worth the extra couple of bucks to get in-wall rated speaker, HDMI, etc. cables)

I'd need a couple of extensions in order to make this work. And as you mentioned; projectors? What if I had a cabinet that the PS4 was in that would require 150 feet of cable to get to the console in order to put the camera by the screen? (It doesn't have to be nearly 150 feet away for it to require that much cable by the time you go up walls, into ceilings, etc.)

The fact that this isn't a wireless accessory is baffling. Or that at least the wireless connectivity isn't an option.

Frankly, there isn't much you can do with the camera right now. I don't find playroom all that exciting. The audio controls are next to useless. BUT; my neices and nephews LOVE just dance and that was worth paying the discounted black-friday price for the PS4 camera. But I am frustrated at how short the cable was and having to put it at the non-ideal height of the low entertainment cabinet we have under the TV; because I'd need extensions to run the cables into the wall and up on top of the TV (my TV is wall mounted with cables hidden in the walls)
