Hi everyone, i'm new here and apologies for my first comment being so long. I just wanted to say, as an XBOX gamer that I also think GP is unsustainable. However, it's Microsoft who looks at the numbers and if they think they can break even or make money from it then it's not for me to worry about.
I buy every console. My first was the N64, followed by the original PlayStation and I have purchased everyone since. In my home I currently have the PS2 Slim, OG PS3, PS3 Slim, Xbox 360 Arcade, 360 Slim, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Wii, WiiU, Switch, Switch 2, PS Vita, PSP's, Xbox One, PS4 Slim, PS4 Pro, PS5 and I have the PS5 Pro on order from Amazon.
So I don't particularly side with one over the other. I just game where the games show up on whatever platform. I have GPU since it was first made available and the only time I paid for Game Pass was when I couldn't find a Series X until Walmart had them available with a two year GP subscription. Since then I have not spent money on GPU and my subscription ends Sept 2026. I have used my Rewards Points to purchase GP, so that makes GP even more unsustainable because i'm sure i'm not the only getting a free ride on Game Pass Ultimate.
The other thing about GP is that most games on GP are those i'm not interested in and on occasion I found a gem but that was only because Microsoft tied achievements to rewards points. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have bothered. It's the same reason I don't do PS+. The games on there usually don't interest me and I will have probably purchased the game long before it showed up on PS+.
The biggest problem with all these services is that I see it all coming to a head where people might get subscription burnout because everyone in media is selling a sub. Will GP survive? It's anyone's guess but I would question it.
