Yes stores do this, but its a normal part of supply and demand. If something is popular, higher price. If its not, discount it. that affects anyone who enters the store.
The real world equivalent would be a guy whos a frequent shopper walking into a store, the entrace scanner flags on their system how much he spent on his last visit and puts up the prices and remove deals, just for him. But a guy whos never shopped there enters, keeps prices low and applies discounts, just for him.
