@Overmind It was the last truly great Final Fantasy game for almost 25 years - a quarter of a century! However, that legacy came to an end on December 5th 2024. Final Fantasy IX is still my favourite though. If it wasn't I wouldn't have invested over 120 hours on disc one just to see if I could get the Gastro Fork before entering Gizmaluke's Grotto; requiring the fight against Quale to be won without Matra Magic (my original idea, but it isn't available until climbing to Cleyra at the earliest). Unfortunately, merging with Enix destroyed Squaresoft. This can be evidenced by them being reduced to being merely publishers of other developer's great games or producing remasters to piggyback off the success of their pre-merger legacy.
@Chupa_loyzer I don't want to be penalised for breaking TOS, so I think the only thing I can permissibly say explicitly that would hold them back is the attention span of the younger generation. Though if anyone were to believe a game is boring merely for being turn-based then, by extension, that would encompass chess. Although it is perfectly fine to not enjoy chess, to think it boring could be considered indicative of lacking in a certain measurable quotient.
Addendum: most of the time spent on disc one was spent playing Chocobo Hot & Cold for a Robe of Lords and 4 Protect Rings. Even after reaching max beak level, it is still fairly slow going with only Chocobo Forest to farm - it did leave plenty of time for frogs to mate though.
