Bungie isn't owned by any company, their partnership with Activision consists simply of them funding Destiny. They do not own Bungie or the Destiny IP. So yes, Bungie is 'indie'.
Interested to see how this turns out, I found Microsoft's conference a bit boring with the exception of the Tomb Raider 2 exclusivity bombshell. I also thought Sony's conference last Gamescom was more interesting than their E3 that year.
