@VeganH Devs are using UE5 to keep games looking as good as the likes of TLOU2 and RDR2, but without the hundreds of million dollar budgets that only the biggest devs can afford. Almost nobody can create games that look as good on proprietary engines anymore.
Devs love UE5 because it makes dev much quicker so within budget and therefore achievable. We're also in a position where the software has in many ways out grown this gens console hardware (utilising RTGI etc), so performance issues are to be expected. Devs have to decide about either making it run perfectly on old hardware at the expense of the visuals, or making it run 'well enough' with good visuals. They will never please everyone due to that.
That's not to say games can't be better optimised, and often in time we see that improvement once devs have the time, but they also have deadlines they don't have the financial luxury of missing like the big studios so often do, so they often have to ship games before they are fully optimised.
