I wasn't sure what to expect going into the announcement trailer for Ordinary Oddness, and it's left me with more questions than answers, but I think that's sort of the point.

This is a new open world RPG from publisher Tencent and developer COSMICPUP, and its 22-minute debut video is quite something:

Ordinary Oddness is calling itself a "Nothing-Stays-Oddinary" open world RPG, and as far as I can tell, it's a free-to-play game — though this isn't explicitly stated anywhere.

Anyway, the video seems to contain a full mission from the game. It's set in a world in which mythical beings and humans coexist, and all logic is cast aside in a landscape that's constantly shifting.

The city of Elysian Skies is the main setting, but it seems reality will warp in unexpected ways as you play through missions, with some really unusual and flashy visuals. The game is all built in Unreal Engine 5.

It seems like combat is one of the main ways you'll interact with it; there are a couple of boss fights in the above video, showing off how you can swap between characters and combine blocking, parrying, and so on in a free form fashion.

It's quite the spectacle, but I'm not really sure what to make of it myself. It reminds me a bit of Sea of Remnants, another game that seems to be presenting itself in a deliberately obscure way.

That being said, the world-bending presentation is impressive to look at, and I've not seen anything quite like it on PS5. It's going to be interesting to see how this game takes shape when it launches. There's no date yet, but I imagine it's targeting 2027.
