'This Is Illegal': Stop Killing Games Movement Distances Itself from GTA 6 Leaks 1

This week will see the debut of an extended look at GTA 6, our first official glimpse of the game itself ahead of launch later in the year.

Unfortunately, a spate of leaked videos of the game have emerged online over the last week or so, thanks to a person (or group) calling themselves Cyberleek.

Cyberleek states that its goals are to push back against things like digital pre-orders, single player content being gated off, and games not being playable once online servers go down.

These are similar issues that the legal movement Stop Killing Games opposes, but the group has distanced itself from Cyberleek and their actions with a lengthy statement on social media.

In a nutshell, Stop Killing Games doesn't condone the leaks at all, and urges people not to engage; while Cyberleek's purported manifesto sounds noble, it's actually pushing a crypto currency and asking people to pay up for more leaks.

"The group is using the leak to promote a memecoin, attaching crypto links and QR codes to the footage and asking people to pay for more," the statement reads. "Do not send these people your money, no matter how much sympathy you may feel for their actions. This is illegal, and frankly, we feel for everyone at Rockstar having to go through this ordeal again, especially just over a week before Rockstar’s own official 'Extended Look' premieres."

"Using illegal means to make a point is unacceptable to us and does nothing to protect our right to keep using what we paid for. No matter how strongly you disagree with the decisions of upper management at these companies, there are still thousands of developers who worked hard on this project — and they’re the ones being hit the hardest."

Stop Killing Games also points out that leaks against Rockstar Games rarely work out, pointing to 2022's GTA 6 leak that resulted in one of the culprits being sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.

"This isn't a cause worth risking your money or your future on," Stop Killing Games says.

Again, the official extended look arrives in a few days, and there seems to be no plan from Take-Two and Rockstar to change course.
