I Can't Believe Train Sim World 7 Will Come to PS5 Before the Japanese Route I've Spent Years Writing About 1

There was an air of inevitability to all this really, I suppose.

It’s almost September, which means a new Train Sim World game is right around the corner, this time Train Sim World 7. (At some point we might have to start writing the number in words like when a football team suffers a particularly heavy loss.)

I wrote in July about how my most anticipated route, the Japanese Tadami Line, was coming soon. But it got delayed at the last minute, and while dev Dovetail has been sharing updates, it looks like it’s not going to make it out before 15th September, when the new edition launches.

I first wrote about the Tadami Line when this series was on Train Sim World 4. I understand game dev is difficult – and this is being made by an external partner – but just let that sink in for a minute. Announced for Train Sim World 4, will release for Train Sim World 7. (Presumably.)

To be fair to Dovetail, it’s doing its Starter Edition promotion again, which lets you download a “basic” version of Train Sim World 7 for free and import all your DLC into it. There are bundles with new routes, but you don’t technically have to buy anything.

The new version comes with a handful of fresh features, including the new Freight Hauler mode which brings some sandbox elements to the package. There’s also a Live Weather mode, which will pull real meteorological data into your game, matching the weather in the real-world.

The new routes included in the standard edition include: Miami, Yorkshire, and Bavaria. Upcoming DLC additions will include Amsterdam to the Hague, which appeals to me.

Dovetail also says it’s started work on a new Romania route, with Lisbon also coming soon.

I do appreciate that the dev is finally starting to come good on the game’s global premise, as I do find the focus on the UK, US, and Germany pretty tiresome personally. (I understand that’s what the core audience probably wants, though.)

I mean, you know me: I’ve been a huge proponent of Train Sim World over the years. But it is getting harder and harder to get excited for this annual iterative updates, even if they are available “for free” through the Starter Edition.

I just wish that damn Tadami Line would come out. It feels like it’s taken an eternity.
