If you remember Muramasa on the Nintendo Wii, or its PS Vita port, then congratulations — you've got taste.
Vanillaware's typically stunning action RPG is being remade as Muramasa: Revenant Blades, and it's coming to PS5 in early 2027.
Indeed, this is more of a reworked re-release than a simple remaster. For starters, it's packing all six of the playable characters from the aforementioned Vita port — four of which were originally part of DLC scenarios.
You'll be able to play through each character's story in any order, right from the start.

What's more, the combat and weapon systems have apparently been adjusted, which will no doubt impact the game's overall balance and flow.
And lastly, the whole thing's been given a 4K resolution makeover.

Amazing news. I never saw this coming. I never finished it on the Vita actually. I'll have no excuse now.
This maybe one of the best announcements of the week for me. Love Vanillaware stuff and never played this back in the day.
Finally this beautiful game is out of the cage. This was my favorite announcement from the Nintendo Direct and one of the best from the whole week.
Excellent. The Wii version was good but suffered from the Wii's awful video output and less than ideal controls. The Vita version is good but I've been wanting a bigger version to play for years.
I'll definitely buy it, but probably not at launch.
I love this game. Sometimes i replay it when i want to feast my eyes with Vanillaware gorgeous art while having fun with the hack & slash. And i still keep my Blessing of Amitabha Collectors Edition (which quite expensives nowadays) in good edition.
I'm not gonna double dip this one though. But i highly reccomend it for people who loves side scroller hack & slash with classic Japan setting, interesting story & characters, and gorgeous artstyle.
Oh and the musics are great and composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto, which you would know his works if you played FF Tactics & 12, Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, Valkyria Chronicles, as well most Vanillaware games.
This was a bigger surprise than anything else in the direct and a welcome one too. In an ocean of downgraded Switch 2 ports of popular games everyone played 2-3 years ago - it's refreshing to see at least one that actually benefits from a re-release!
As a weeb gamer, today has been excellent
So nice that every third party game in the Direct I wanted already has a PS store page.
I loved this game on the Wii, I still wish I had it. But I’ll definitely take this.
I actually thought this was a new game, but I'll settle for that.
Finally it's been too long I been wanted that muramasa is one of my favorite psvita games Word up son
This is a day 1 pre-order from me. Just waiting if a collectors edition will be announced now.
Another one for the wishlist!
Great to hear this is out of the Wii & Ps Vita jail lol!
OMG finally I’ve been waiting and praying this would happen and it finally is! I’m there day zero no matter the price
More vainillaware is always good
FINALLY!!! Thought this was never coming. I'm beyond excited.
Happy to get another Vanillaware game on modern consoles since I want to play all their stuff eventually. So far I've completed 13 Sentinels, Unicorn Overlord and Odin Sphere, looking forward to more.
It's an amazing game! Very happy it's now out of Wii/Vita jail, everyone deserves a chance to play it.
Muramasa finally escaped the Vita jail. Always love me some Vanillaware games and Muramasa is one of my all time favorites
this game already looked good on the vita , in 4k on the ps5 im sure it will look amazing
Anything vanillaware count me in lol, glad for this remaster.
I have Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown nib on my Vita. At some point, I will grab a physical copy of this game as well. I don't usually do that, I just happened to get those two gifted to me while I already had digital copies.
Also, to fans of Vanillaware, Grand Knight's History has a translation available now as well.
@LikelySatan Thank you for the heads up on Grand Knight's History.
@IntrepidWombat It is a really repetitive game without MP, but has been a white whale for me since 2010 or so? Whenever it was announced that it would stay in JPN. Anyway, hope you like it. I like games mostly for cool art, so I love it.
This was my favorite game-of-early-June-not-E3 reveal. I have waited years for Muramasa to come back. So happy it's finally happening.
@Ashina It's on the Wii as well.
One of the few games I've beaten on my wii. On that time, I almost always left the games before they finished. I used the console for less than a year then sold it. Too many childish titles for me... then I bought my PS3 and everything changed for better
I love this game! I have it for the Vita. Looking forward to the release of the game next year.
@PuppetMaster I also love the music of this composer!! <3
@LikelySatan I know, this was literally the reason why I got a Wii back then, lol. This was also the reason I wanted to get a Vita so badly
@Ashina If it helps, Vita emulation is coming along. It is a great handheld to own though. I haven't hacked mine, and even without that it is worth owning.
Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Steam... No PS4?
Oh well. At least Steam will be available.
One of the best hightlights. I remember playing the original version years ago, and later on the Rebirth version. I happily replay this gem.😊
