As promised, Bandai Namco has launched its big 3.0 update for Tekken 8, which promised a "back to basics" approach following heavy criticism during Season 2.
Season 3 begins today, and it comes with a huge overhaul to game balance and various other changes. The update is available right now.
We won't embed absolutely everything included in the patch here, as the sheer number of changes made when you include adjustments to individual characters is crazy.
Before the balancing, though, let's quickly go over the other changes included.

The patch adds new Season 3 stuff to the in-game shop, including the Round 9 Fight Pass. There are also adjustments to your rank for the new season, as well as changes to matchmaking, customisation, and more.
As for character balancing, this update reviews the "strengths, weaknesses, and distinct advantages" of every fighter, with the goal of "creating a battle experience in which each character’s individuality can be felt more clearly within neutral interactions and mind-games."
The update also targets "risk and reward across game systems and character-unique mechanics" in a continuation of efforts to "address excessive frame advantage situations and disproportionately high reward."
Air combos have also seen adjustments: "In Ver.3.00.00, the issue where air combos became excessively long when a Heat Engager was landed as a grounded hit and then followed by Heat Dash was addressed."
The official patch notes include all the nitty gritty details, with each character having some of their moves buffed or nerfed, and some even have brand new moves.
There's a huge amount of information for Tekken fans to absorb here, and we imagine it'll take a while for players to really figure out whether the devs have made the right calls. Hopefully it's a step in the right direction at least.

So far the community is not very happy with this. It does not seem to do much of what they advertise it as.
As expected the subreddit isn't happy because they never are.
To add to what @DennisReynolds and @Voltan have said, given the negative reaction to this, I'll be giving it a hard swerve.
There's a big update for Street Fighter 6 today. Major balance patch (in which my two mains got nerfed lol), and Alex added. I'll be playing that instead.
Been seeing Tekken players talking about retirement following this patch so that's already a strong start to the reception of S3 XD
@MrPeanutbutterz SF6 Alex looks so good from a presentation and gameplay angle....and then you see his Arcade/World Tour story content 💀
@Fizza Haha, I won't get to check any of it out until this evening, sounds, err, "interesting" 💀
@Fizza I saw that and yeah, skull emoji
@Fizza Either capcom hired the wrong lore master from Alabama or there's some mistranslation lol.
@PuppetMaster @Fizza I did see someone say "he marries his second cousin"... err, say it ain't so 😂
@MrPeanutbutterz

I'm praying they go back and retcon it entirely with a different slate of lore pieces because Capcom managed to do the impossible and make themselves the main target of ire today rather than the Tekken faithful getting yet another dud patch (which given the nuclear reception to T8 Season 2 is truly a feat for the ages💀).
@Fizza Welp, I'm home and the updates for both SF6 and T8 are currently downloading! 💀
I know Reddit is an amplifier of all things shouty on the internet, but I had a quick look at the Tekken sub earlier (as I'd be one of the people who wants a "back to basics" approach) and yeah...
... so if Capcom can somehow outdo that negative reaction, then I can't help but tip my hat to them lol.
Tekken8 community has always been a funny one. It seems the reception to this new patch is mostly negative. I'd have to try it for myself. I recently deleted Tekken8 when I thought I hit my limit in ability. Might just try this out... but then again... might just avoid this and watch for the giggles
@MrPeanutbutterz Yep, you heard that right. But gameplay wise Alex is really fun so at least it's not that bad.
@Mes_Urson from what I understand, they didn't change anything major to address the issues that plagued season 2. They added "new" moves to several characters but it turns out, most of them are either moves they had in previous entries or from discontinued characters.
False promises are the worst! I honestly didnt understand their "back to basics" quote i think they said?
seems like they've ruined some of the combo routes and reduced air juggling which in itself can be objectively good or bad depending. Tekken 8 team have been damned if they do and damned if they dont from a day 1 though. Cant please everyone! Memes will be good though
