Ahead of its PS5 release in exactly a week, Koei Tecmo has put out a Fatal Frame 2 Remake demo to let you experience what it's done with the horror classic.
The demo can be downloaded from the PS Store now, and all of the progress you make can be carried over to the full game via your save data. You get to play the opening of the title, so you can basically get started on your playthrough now. The Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake comes out on PS5 on 12th March 2026.
Twin sisters Mio and Mayu wander into an abandoned village haunted by vengeful spirits. It is a village where night never ends, crawling with ghosts searching for the twins who once fled their ritual. Mio tries to find Mayu and escape, but in doing so, she unwittingly retraces the tragic events of the past.

This is a remake of the scariest game ever for its time. I pray it is given the treatment it deserves.
@CupidStunt Me too... It's the only game to ever really scare me
I think I will likely get this at some point, but I feel like releasing so soon after RE Requiem and Reanimal wasn't the best idea. When I finish RE, I'm not need a break from horror for a while.
Nice! I preordered my physical copy from Best Buy this morning. I'll play the demo tonight. I think I read somewhere that the game only runs at 30fps, even on PS5 Pro. Strange, if so, but I'm excited nonetheless.
I'm glad I Platinumed RE Requiem a few days ago, so my full attention will be on this game next week.
Silent Hill Town Fall later this year. Us horror fans are eating good!
@DTfearTheBEARD I’ve got my copy preordered from GameStop. Between all the games and stacked movie lineup us horror fans are definitely eating good
@BamBamBaklava89 Yes we are. Fatal Frame, Resident Evil, Silent Hill. If Nintendo announces Luigi's Mansion 4, I'll be set.
@DTfearTheBEARD playing the demo right now. Sadly, it is indeed a soul crushing 30fps with pretty severe drops, even on Pro. One might call them fatal frame drops. Also, the film grain filter or whatever they’re using is so thick I keep wanting to grab the swiffer and run it over my tv screen. No way to adjust that either. I like what I’m playing so far, I just don’t like how they’re making me play it ☹️
@Balaam_ Severe frame drops at 30fps on Pro? Oh no. Those frames do sound fatal! Are you playing on an OLED display? The sound quality is supposed to be really good. Are you using headphones or a surround sound system? I don't mind 30fps. But if it isn't consistent, that's bad.
I definitely want to check out the demo as I've been looking forward to this one.
I'm hearing that the performance leaves a lot to be desired though (also evidenced by comments above), which kinda sucks, especially for a remake of such a classic.
Got the Physical copy paid off and the digital deluxe pre ordered. Can't wait.
Exciting! I downloaded it so fast!
30fps on PS5 Pro, terrible film grain across the entire screen at all times, no gyro while aiming the camera, the demo crashed on me after the boss fight. Kinda thinking about canceling my pre-order 😑
The film grain on both PS5 and Series X is absolutely horrendous with HDR enabled. It's not just on the PS5 version. It's significantly better with HDR disabled on both of those two consoles, but then you don't get the HDR pop for highlights. I guess in the state it's in I'll go with no HDR over the excessive grain. Hopefully they get that sorted AND add a toggle to disable it completely like the PC version. Speaking of... has anyone played the PC demo in HDR? Is the film grain also excessive on PC when using HDR vs no HDR?
