We've said it multiple times before and we'll say it again: The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is the closest thing we're getting to the return of Mass Effect.
Well, until the new Mass Effect comes out, but we're still waiting on even a glimpse of that project.
Anyway, developed by the genre experts at OwlCat Games, this is a sci-fi RPG with combat built around cover-based third-person shooting. And as the name suggests, it's an adaptation of The Expanse — an incredibly well respected series of books that spawned a TV show some years back.

Osiris Reborn boasts an original story, however, and a cast of characters who you'll get to know through a dialogue wheel of sorts.
We had been hoping that it would drop this year, but we're going to be waiting a bit longer than expected. The new gameplay trailer, which we've posted above, confirms a spring 2027 release window on PS5.

Been following this since it got announced, Owlcat do really excellent CRPGs, I'm looking forward to their first 3rd person RPG.
That 2027 release date sucks a bit though.
Very excited to see more of this. I love the more grounded sci-fi angle of the Expanse universe.
Yes I can and I will 😉 I've decided to lay off on buying new games till I've cleared my backlog and there's 70 games there I'm looking to play 😅
@Drago201 At least Crimson Desert isn't one of them, you could play that one alone until Osiris Reborn comes out!
I'm very much looking forward to playing The Expanse. It is exactly my type of game...
@AnginaPectoris honestly being broke right now kinda helps lmao 🤣
@ShogunRok yeah my roommate been on that game for days now he put like 40 hours into that game and barely scratched the surface 😇
It looks good, but it's not exactly Mass Effect... It has the squad and optional dialogue, but it's too much combat.
Mass Effect had an epic story, involving multiple worlds and races, both current and very old, etc.
On that aspect i think Exodus is closer to ME, also launching in 2027. Take a look there too, it had a Gameplay First Look trailer last week.
The show was incredible, so, I will check the game!!
Loved the show so I'm hoping this will be good.
Owlcat Games will smash this out of the park!
@Shinnok789 play again Mass Effect, it has so much combat, I guess you have forgotten that it is Shooter first.
@REALAIS Yes it has, but it also has a lot of other parts that are not present here, at least not in the shown videos.
Some of the gameplay looked a little 'stiff' but there is still plenty of time and it looks promising. Hopefully they can pull it off and we get another great sci-fi game.
Saw it some comment on Youtube and couldn't be truer: 2027 is shaping up to be a sci-fi year with Intergalactic, Exodus and now this.
For Expanse series I only heard praises and really want to watch it once I finish my other countless "Need to finish"es.
@Shinnok789 what is not shown? What you would expect? On premise alone it is different, where Shepherd is all space hero, in Expanse wirld that hero is Holden from books/TV Show. This is smaller parallel crew doing some stuff around that area.
Definitely reminds me of Mass Effect. Seems like this Exodus will be competing against each other next year.
The Expanse is my all time favorite show and I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve read of the books, so I am all in on this!
I’m Day One on this one.
This is close to a guaranteed purchase for me. Even if it turns out to be flawed, I'd still want to see how they did it
The Expanse is some of the best sci fi out there
This one and Exodus
Both are D1 buys for me
BioWare should take some notes from this 2
