Assassin's Creed Shadows is fast approaching its first anniversary, but unlike its predecessor Assassin's Creed Valhalla, it won't be getting a full second year of support.
Confirmation comes from franchise head Jean Guesdon, who states that Shadows is now in its "final phase of support".
Providing more detail in a blog post that's all about the future of Assassin's Creed, Guesdon writes: "As we reach this [one year] milestone, Shadows will be moving into its final phase of support. We're winding things down with smaller, less frequent updates... but still a few surprises!"
Shadows' most recent patch — version 1.1.8 — dropped in February, adding the highly requested ability to perform manual jumps, and fixing a slew of small bugs and issues.
We're guessing this is the kind of update that Guesdon is referring to. We think any remaining hope that Shadows will receive more DLC or another expansion has to be let go at this point.
Still, it'll be interesting to see what these "surprises" that Guesdon teases entail.
For what it's worth, Shadows' support up until now has been quite impressive. Yes, the open world RPG only got one expansion — the somewhat underwhelming Claws of Awaji — but it's been handed numerous major updates that have, in several cases, greatly improved the game.
So, Shadows isn't done done, but the end is nigh. Is there anything you'd still like to see added to the title? Draw your katana one last time in the comments section below.
