Almost 40 Years After the Original, Toaplan's Truxton Will Be Revived on PS5 1

Truxton first released in arcades in 1988, a month after this author was born.

While there was a sequel in 1992, the upcoming Truxton Extreme will mark the first new entry in the franchise in decades.

The good news: it’s coming out on 30th July for the PS5. Digital copies will be available from the PS Store starting at $24.99, while you’ll be able to pre-order a physical copy from publisher Clear River’s website for $49.99.

For those who don’t know, Truxton was conceived by Masahiro Yuge, who was trained as a classical pianist. That allowed him to bring a unique perspective to the game design, and a rhythmic quality to the bullet hell.

Yuge has returned for this new release with his studio Tatsujin, and he’s written a whole new soundtrack to accompany the title.

The full game will feature a traditional shmup arcade mode, as well as a story campaign with animated manga-style sequences.

The game will also be fully playable in co-op, so that’s a nice touch for those of you who want to share the shooting responsibilities.

Here’s a summary from the press release:

"Truxton Extreme delivers white-hot shooter thrills for masters and novices alike. Take down hordes of alien invaders with your Power Shot, Truxton Beam, Thunder Laser, and Homing Shot, and remember to breathe as you face off against gigantic bosses in the ultimate battle for humanity’s survival!"
