It's well-documented that Japan loves Dragon Quest, and that continues to prove itself true with the most recent game.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined was last week's best-selling physical game in the country by a landslide. With different platform versions taking up the top three spots on the chart, the total sold comes to 456,552, per Famitsu estimates (thanks, Gematsu).
This figure doesn't include digital sales.
The next best-selling game is Nioh 3, which managed less than 10 per cent of DQ7's sales at 40,570 physical copies sold. Obviously, it's only on one platform, so it's not a great comparison, but any game would struggle to measure up to Square Enix's RPG series.

On the hardware side, PS5 (including PS5 Pro) has once again outsold Switch 1, but the Switch 2 continues its winning streak.

Just got my copy today but I still have the post game to tackle in the original. I will not rest until the dog boy becomes a platinum king jewel.
Having a blast with it!
30% complete so far and having a blast, hopefully they plan on Remaking DQ9 next.
Finished the main story. Getting put in my place with the end game stuff!
I've never played any of these games but tried the demo last week out of curiosity. I'm not a turn-based fan and the combat got a little tedious towards the end of it, but I'm really enjoying it. It's a cute title and very unique. Will definitely be purchasing it in the next few days.
I don’t think those Xbox numbers are sustainable.
So much fun! Loving it!
That's awesome. DQ games have never been my cup of tea, but I love seeing this type of work succeed. If I can get back into DQXI at some point, I may pick this up in a couple years.
@Bunchesopuppies Weird for you to bring up Xbox completely unnecessarily. Why not mention the fact that Switch 2 is closing in on PS5 sales after a few months?
@SMJ Switch 2 is closing in on PS5 and PS4 is outselling the "best value in gaming".
DQ, MonHun, and Nintendo games including Pokemon. The usual stuff that Japan always loves.
Surprised Nioh 3 can managed to sell 40K in the same week as DQ 7.
And looking at PS5 sales after digital version got price cut, i can see Sony gonna limit PS6 production for Japan and push their resource for bigger & more profitable market like China.
Death, taxes, & DQ selling well in Japan lol
