Sony Goes Silent on Social Media as Fans Turn Feral Following Bluepoint Closure 1

Sony has seemingly ceased all social media activities following the devastating news involving Bluepoint this week.

In the immediate aftermath of the unfortunate news breaking about the Demon’s Souls remake dev, a scheduled post on Marathon was published across all of PlayStation’s accounts.

While it’s likely the post had been scheduled for several hours, the unfortunate timing led to fans turning feral in the replies.

The post, published approximately 24 hours ago at the time of writing, attracted almost 2,000 replies on X (or Twitter), none of which are particularly kind.

It’s not posted on any of its accounts since.

“Dumb ass company,” one of the tamer replies reads.

“You should close down Bungie and keep Bluepoint frankly,” a common sentiment adds.

It’s unfortunate for the Marathon maker to be caught in the crosshairs of this mess, as it was enjoying some positive momentum up until recently.

Furthermore, whatever your thoughts on Bungie, the closure of Bluepoint is not really the Washington studio’s fault – unless you want to argue that Sony’s $3 billion acquisition of the dev lead directly to this point. That feels like a stretch to us.

Either way, it looks like Sony’s probably going to keep its mouth shut for the time being. We wouldn’t be surprised if it cancelled all planned social media activities until at least Monday, when presumably it’ll hope the temperature is a bit cooler.

Personally, while we do think it’s important for fans to make their voices heard, we’re not keen on these levels of hostility. Alas, it’s the world we live in, and it’s not the first time PlayStation’s been on the receiving end of a vicious backlash.
