First Ecco the Dolphin Remaster Details Make Waves, But Still No Official Word on PS5 1

Japanese gaming bible Famitsu has dibs on the first Ecco the Dolphin remaster details, but there’s still no official word on whether the game will come to the PS5.

In a two-page preview shared on social media, series creator Ed Annunziata talks a little bit about the project, which was previously revealed in an interview with Xbox Wire.

He says that the plan is to compile “all 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit versions” of the game in one package, and allow you to toggle between the visuals in real-time.

That would likely include the Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, and SEGA CD versions of the underwater adventure, although we’re not sure what he means by 32-bit edition, because our understanding is that the 32X port was never completed.

It’s notable that the Famitsu article only ever mentions the Switch as the project’s target platform, although the origins of this story stemming from the Xbox Wire suggest an Xbox Series X|S port is also planned.

There’s been no official word on this coming to the PS5 as yet, but if it’s coming to both Nintendo and Microsoft’s platforms, we’d be shocked if Sony’s system is excluded.

Either way, a countdown on the game’s official website will expire in April, so hopefully that’s when we’ll learn a lot more.
