A year on from its release in May 2025, Blades of Fire will be getting a huge update on the 14th May 2026, as developer MercurySteam attempts to rekindle interest in the action RPG.

This was one of those games that went under the radar for many; critic reviews were rather lukewarm at launch, but we saw some solid praise for the title over the months that followed. Some would argue that it's a little underrated.

Blades of Fire ended up underperforming in terms of sales, with publisher 505 Games stating that it's become increasingly difficult to stir up interest in new properties. It's nice to see the game getting continued support, then.

Anyway, its major '2.0' update promises a slew of fresh features, including New Game+, a mode that lets you replay boss battles for new rewards, a new difficulty level, and even improved animations.

Needless to say, if you hold any kind of interest in Blades of Fire, you might want to check it out in a few months when version 2.0 drops.

Here's a rundown of the update's features via the official press release:

New Contents

  • New Game Plus
  • New Challenge Level: Titanium
  • New Weapon Parts & Skins (only available in New Game Plus)
  • Elements Transmutation, which allows players to change material types
  • Photo Mode
  • Boss Revival Mode (a new game mode where you can replay boss fights and earn rewards)
  • Adso’s Spells on weapons for a deeper combat (rewards tied to Boss Revival Mode introducing spells that enhance weapon abilities with special effects)
  • Now you can pet the Ox in Blades of Fire.

Improvements

  • Expanded death and mutilation variations
  • Improved animation transition
