Red Dead Redemption is now available to download and play natively on the PS5, with a free upgrade available for existing owners of the PS4 port. It’s also launching directly into the PS Plus Extra catalogue for all members to enjoy.
While the game was updated to run at 60fps via PS5 backwards compatibility, this new version promises a “number of enhancements” in addition to the ability to transfer your existing game progress.
As we reported previously, there’s a new set of Trophies, although they’re identical to the PS4 version.

At just 9.730GB, the Rockstar release’s file size is fairly small by modern standards. But if you don’t fancy downloading the game, it’s also available to cloud stream via PS Plus Premium on both the PS5 and PS Portal.
It goes without saying Red Dead Redemption is one of the greatest open world games ever made.
In our original PS3 review, we described the release as “achingly believable”. Personally, we’re looking forward to experiencing it all over again.
