One of the wildest titles coming to PS5 in the future, Showa American Story will now release for the console in 2026, as confirmed by developer Nekcom Games.

First revealed in January 2022, it's been a long road to release for Showa American Story, but the studio now states it's moving towards the "final stages of development" and is pushing the release back to "ensure the best possible quality".

The complete statement from executive producer Xy Luo explains: "I know this isn’t the news you were hoping for, and I’m truly sorry to keep you waiting longer. This extra time will allow us to give Showa American Story the level of quality it deserves and ensure it meets the standards we’ve set for ourselves."

For those unaware of the premise, the game is set in an alternate reality where Japan has "bought out" most of the USA, to the point where Japanese culture is the norm. "However, a mysterious catastrophic incident changes the world drastically. The social order is long gone. An unknown amount of time passes, a teenage girl mysteriously revives from the dead, only to find a brand new wild post-apocalyptic world with zombies, monsters, and human survivors of different backgrounds and beliefs."
