While Sony’s own emulation efforts via PS Plus Premium continue to progress glacially, other organisations are getting in on the act.

Brazilian company QUByte announced overnight that it’s upgraded its proprietary QUByte Emulation Engine with PS1 support, and it intends to release “many cult favourites” from the console on modern platforms like the PS5 as a consequence.

While it didn’t share any additional details, it already confirmed the three ports it has actively in the works:

  • Invasion from Beyond (1998): A polygonal dogfighting game inspired by 50s sci-fi movies.
  • Motor Mash (1997): An isometric arcade racing game similar to Micro Machines.
  • One (1997): A cinematic 3D platform shooter involving an amnesiac seeking to learn his own identity.

QUByte didn’t say when any of the games will release, and what kind of quality-of-life features its emulator will introduce.

But seeing as the dev tends to license more obscure content, this could be a great accompaniment to the work Sony’s already doing – especially considering how slowly its adding to its library of PS1 classics.
