Those crazy cats at Hello Games have done it again; No Man's Sky has just received another free game update, and this one adds brand new, customisable player ships.
The update is called Voyagers, and it brings an all-new ship type to the sci-fi space game: Corvettes.
Previously, the only ships you can fly in the game are predetermined, procedurally generated vehicles that you enter to fly and take shelter from harsh planetary conditions.
With the Voyagers update, Corvettes join the party, and they're a completely different beast.
These are much larger vessels that can be completely customised by the player — think of it like your own mobile base.
You can add various rooms to your Corvette, including sleeping quarters, a mission radar, war room, and more. Then there's functionality like different weaponry, and of course can decorate it to your liking too.
When you're happy with it, you can fly it around the game as you would a normal ship — only in a Corvette, you can get up and walk around the ship mid-flight, and even exit the ship in zero-g to do space walks.
You can also group up with other players and all fly together in one Corvette as a crew.
Corvettes are introduced a little way into the game, though active players will be able to access them pretty quick. However, a new Corvette-focused expedition is also included that'll give all players a taste of these newfangled ships.
In a press release, founder and managing director Sean Murray says it's been a huge undertaking to get this update working.
"The team at Hello have been working on Voyagers for a long time. The technical challenges they have had to overcome to make any of this possible have been immense. Almost every part of the game has had to be reworked to accommodate these relative spaces. Having your multiplayer crew walking around, calmly editing your ship, as it travels at warp speeds towards a planet that is being generated as you approach. It's pretty insane what's going on behind the scenes to make that work."
You can check out the full patch notes through the link, if you're interested.
It sounds like another mammoth update to the game, and the appeal of creating your own spaceship (one large enough to inhabit as a real space rather than "just" a means of transportation) is easy to understand. Who doesn't want their own version of the Millennium Falcon?
Anyway, what do you think of No Man's Sky Voyagers and the new Corvettes? Tell us in the comments section below.

This is huge and something i never thought would happen, even Elite can't do this yet. Yet another feature Star Citizen doesn't have over NMS.
Can someone explain to me how is it possible and profitable for them to make all these enormous updates to the core gameplay for free? I am genuinely and non-sarcastically astonished with what they've accomplished since the game launched whereas other publishers don't even offer a simple free PS5 upgrade.
@Czar_Khastik I suppose this is what a non greedy studios/publishers look like 🤷♂️
Wow, this is sick! Hello Games is the best. <3
@Czar_Khastik And bringing the same experience to Xbox, PC, Switch and Switch 2 as well. Hell, the S2 upgrade was also free!
They really learned their lesson after the original launch. I had it at the time and enjoyed it, but I saw why everyone else complained.
Now it’s just an almost completely different game, and I have to think that it still sells! Positive word of mouth and a comeback like this counts for a lot.
Man this is SO cool. I kinda want to dive back in and build my own ship now.
They finally did it! This has to be the single most wanted feature in the game since day 1, cant wait to boot this up later!
Sounds like yet another amazing update. Time to spend even more time in the PSVR2 version.
They really want me to repurchase and spend another 100 hours in this game, don't they?
@Czar_Khastik They made millions from its initial release, have a small team, have a cosy Gamepass deal, are always selling new copies when big updates drop and they are actually very passionate about the game and its community.
@Czar_Khastik You can go read their annual accounts over on Companies House. It looks like their continued support of the game is giving it a very long tail in terms of game sales. The latest accounts are for 2023 and show Hello Games made over £28m in revenue and over £18m in profit.
So, when you ask how it's profitable, while we cannot see the minutiae, in the words of Sean Murray from the Director's Report in its latest filed accounts: "Hello Games has continued to focus on the game No Man's Sky and has continued to release new content through new updates, still at no extra cost to the players. These have been popular and continue to engage our customers as the universe they explore grows."
This is a live service game done right!
@Czar_Khastik They are small, running costs are not that high. Past sales gave them several years of worry-free work. Those updates encourage new sales, though of course by now that number is not that large.
This game is one of the best gaming stories ever.
They released a broken, buggy, boring, unfinished game with several unfulfilled promises.
Year by year they fixed it, and little by little not only it became the game they promised but much more.
This is a fantastic story of commitment and how learning from your mistakes can make you so much better at something.
I want to give this game a shot, but I wonder does the game have actual quests or is it all "what you make it?" I probably won't obsess over trading or building or mining, etc. I need a good reason to do stuff like that in my games. So are there interesting quests and stories or is it all emergent?
@LikelySatan There's multiple long stories but they're mostly text based and reading logs and stuff. There's no big cutscenes, dialogue trees and stuff like that.
The game is so different now. I need to download it and restart. I played it right after release and probably put about 60 hours in, but it was mainly farming / building.
@Czar_Khastik I think this dude explains pretty good.

@Czar_Khastik every time they release an update they get more press. That coverage drives views which drives sales. There’s always people who haven’t bought it yet.
Every update = more new sales simply because of the free advertisement it brings.
In addition it brings more eyes to the PSN store. The new eyes might buy something in addition to NMS and the peeps just there for the download might see something other they fancy buying.
So it’s a win win win.
Haven't played for a while. So does this make the freighter more redundant?
This game is absolutely crazy and amazing! So many features since its launch! The devs must be really passionate!
Wow, I always wanted to have this feature in NMS! GREAT!
Serious respect to these guys! I havent been gaming a lot lately, but i am gonna pick this game up eventually! It just keeps getting better and better and this just looks frickin awesome! Good job HelloGames 👍🏼
It also adds PSSR to the Pro version (you have to enable it, though). The clarity is unreal.
@Czar_Khastik The game goes on sale fairly often. I do think that with these free updates the goodwill has translated into sales.
Me and my partner bought it just recently and i got it on both pc and switch 2.
@KeldorTheCursed seriously unreal update from them to get PSSR to work in VR!
@maybemaybemaybe indeed! And I was wrong, it's enabled automatically (my update finally downloaded).
Their incredible support for NMS makes me even more excited for Light No Fire and how that might develop over its lifetime - hoping of course that it releases in a more finished state than original NMS.
@Czar_Khastik last time I checked they don’t have a lot of employees. Just a few men working at the studio last time I checked. They don’t have a big HR department, marketing department etc. Just positions that directly contribute to the end product. Also it is clear that the owner isn’t so concerned about making even more money than he could. Their next title should be very successful if they continue with their lessons learned from the launch of NMS.
@Oram77 big studios have a lot of overhead. Corporations even engineering and software companies mostly aren’t full of engineers and software developers. So they need more revenue to stay afloat. Even if as a consumer it seems greedy which is relative if we are being honest.
@maybemaybemaybe @KeldorTheCursed Wow, very cool. Will definitely check out the new stuff in PSVR2 at the weekend.
I received a lot of responses so thanks for that! This just shows if the developer/publisher listen to the community and provide better experiences while maintaining an agile developer team, things can work out really well for them as well as us.
I own a steelbook PS4 version of the game since I'm a physical collector, but if they ever release another deluxe/collector's edition I will be more than happy to support the studio.
This is a great update. Now all that’s needed are turrets that you can place on your ship that the other players can use!
To all game makers Hello Games is your benchmark incredible Games Studio.
