If you're paying attention to indie games, you've probably heard about UFO 50 — a compilation of 50 original games, developed by the people behind Spelunky, Downwell, and much more.
Well, it seems the game is coming to PS5 — just not yet.
The highly acclaimed collection launches today, 7th August 2025, on Nintendo Switch, but tucked away in a press release is the detail that it's actually a timed console exclusive on that platform.
Here's the pertinent quote from the press release:
"UFO 50 from Mossmouth, an out-of-this-world collection of 50 single player and multiplayer games that span a variety of genres – from platformers and shoot 'em ups to puzzle games, roguelites and more – launching on Nintendo Switch as a timed platform exclusive … today!"
The language used — "timed platform exclusive" — implies that UFO 50 is planned to release on other consoles eventually.
The game originally launched on PC in September of last year, where it received incredibly strong praise.
The 50 games included were all made within the confines of a fictional games console, and as you play some of them, you'll unlock later ones, sort of uncovering the "history" of the company behind the machine.
They aren't mini-games, either; they're fully realised, retro-flavoured games spanning numerous styles and genres.
While it's not coming to PS5 today, it seems as though UFO 50 will arrive at some point down the line. There's no word on how long the exclusivity window is, so we'll just have to sit tight for now.

Looking forward to this one when it does eventually release, can't argue about timed exclusives Sony used to be the kings of them (might still be).
With so many new games out recently and coming soon out I can wait a bit longer!
I am going to be patient, as I really cannot wait for this on PS5, even though Switch is probably the better fit for it.
Hoping for a physical PS5 version one day.
I can see it doing really well on the Switch. It’s been the perfect handheld game on the Steamdeck for me. I hope it comes to PS5 soon because it’s incredible!
Shame. I was waiting for this one. Maybe i'll pick it up on the Deck or Switch 2. Handheld / Smaller screen is probably the better fit.
I picked this up straight away along with “Is This Seat Taken?” to play on my Switch 2. I’ll probably double dip if it comes to PS5.
Ouch, very disappointing for me
I just picked it up for the Switch. It seems better suited for handheld play. I’m looking forward to diving into it later this evening. Hopefully it will come to PS5 down the line.
@ErrantRob yeah, I'm an owner of all, but 100% feel I'd just play this more on my Switch 2.
Nothing like a micro dose of gaming whilst "building some furniture" i.e. a stool...
Will absolutely pick this up on my Switch 2 tonight, so not a concern for now.
Im sure I can wait it out, lol 😆
Never heard about this game before, but I'll always wait any timed exclusive to be released on PS5 since i won't be getting this console at all. My support for Nintendo died with the Wii U. Anything from here on out is either emulation or PS5 port
I hadn't even heard of this until today but now I'm hooked. Just need to decide which system to buy it for.
