With more than 30 million sales to its name, Elden Ring helped FromSoftware reach a new level of fame in the games industry, having successfully turned its wide but ultimately linear Dark Souls formula into an open world. That level of success and extremely high quality has now impacted the developer's follow-up projects, with more sales successes reported.
Last year's Shadow of the Erdtree expansion has sold over 10 million copies, and Elden Ring Nightreign has topped five million units.
On Twitter, the Elden Ring profile thanked fans: "The flame of thy passion burns ever bright in these shadowed lands. To all who wander the Lands Between, we offer our deepest thanks."

The good news for FromSoftware is that, in the case of the original Elden Ring game, at least, its sales stats will only be further boosted by a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, currently slated for release this year. It's being repackaged in a Tarnished Edition containing new armour, weapons, and customisation options. Those new items will also come to the PS5, PS4 versions.
Next up for the Japanese developer is The Duskbloods, which is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. There are also rumours of an unannounced project coming by the end of 2026

Elden Ring/Erdtree success is well deserved.
I really hope, with all of that success they invest in upgrading their engine, meaningful pre/post release optomization, enriching their staff and refraining from the continued practice of egregious full price asset flip releases (and no, I'm not referring to Night Reign).
Nightreign is excellent. Took me twenty hours to understand the game and beat the first boss. Beat the next seven bosses over the the following ten hours. Very doable platinum trophy. Took me about 75 hours.
5M is a crazy number for a live service game but this proves if the game is good doesn't matter if is live service or not
@Anya-chan
What part of Nightreign do you see as a “live service”?
I do not share your opinion, and maybe “live service” means different things to you and me.
@Ludacritz with Randos or a group of friends?
My experience with Randos has not been as stellar as yours. It started as a 2/5, and it’s improved to a 3/5. But still a good 40% of my matches I have a deserter, a solo player who ignores the other two, or some other form of nuisance.
They deserve all of the success, From puts out great titles
@gamer153 I've only ever played with randoms. It can be shocking to see truly bad players make terrible mistakes and try to fight the day 2 boss being level 7. But you've just gotta get better at shepherding them.
@gamer153 for me is live service if the game get updates and is constantly online otherwise you cant play is live service like helldivers
@Anya-chan
Thank you.
I understand your viewpoint now. Although, Helldivers really is one of the best examples (imho) of a Live Service: regular updates, bidirectional communication from Developer to Player Base, shared goals, collaboration-oriented tools…
So many things Nightreign doesn’t have, and thus why I struggle to see them as a real “live service”.
@Ludacritz
Yeah… “shepherding” them is not something I consider “fun” or “worth my time” without the necessary comms tools to support it.
Thanks.
@gamer153 but that's how the game is played. Open the map, set your marker, and run. That's what I mean by shepherding. Hey man, I was able to get the platinum in just over two weeks by playing with randoms. If you can't even play the game using the tools they give you then the game isn't the problem here.
@gamer153 well but regardless of our different opinions glad the game is doing good
