11 Bit Studios has announced that the PS5 port of Frostpunk 2 will release on 18th September 2025, with both physical and digital versions available. You can catch the console reveal trailer above.
Released just shy of a year ago on PC, the freezing city builder is well regarded by critics and players, with a rating of 85 on Metacritic.
Based on its experiences porting the first game to PS4, the developer improved its circular navigation UI. 11 Bit Studios wants to prove "complex strategy games" can still feel at home on consoles, so it began by attempting to bring across as many of its original solutions as possible.

According to production coordinator Igor Skibinski, this proved more of a challenge than expected due to how different the two Frostpunk games are. Those gameplay systems have now been adapted and reworked in an attempt to "make interaction with the game feel seamless — so players never have to think about how to play while they’re playing".
The end result is a control scheme with "several improvements". The bumper buttons cycle between your districts of the same type, and a radial menu appears over resources presenting specific actions related to their use.
As well as the usual PS Store digital release, 11 Bit Studios is also working with Skybound Games to offer two physical editions. There's the Icebreaker Edition and the Whiteout Edition.

75% user score on MC, 75% on steam (66% recent) does not exactly scream well-regarded…
The first game is excellent, so I'm very much looking forward to this.
@Vovander And 85% from critics, and an 96% recommend on Opencritic with 80 user rating. Those don't look like low numbers to me and would fall in line with "highly rated".
Can't wait to try this finally; The Alters is phenomenal.
@JB_Whiting fair, but when there is a noticeable discrepancy between critic and user scores, would have been nice if it was mentioned in the article.
Loved the firdt game but the changes they made put me right off and does not interest me in the slightest.
After The Alters, This War of Mine and of course the original Frostpunk l’ll be there for the console release (which has taken a while) on Day 1. 11 Bit excels at management games where sometimes the morally abhorrent choice is the ‘best’ choice for the community (and vice versa).
